Sold new phone buyer says it is faulty

    nope did not take the number did not cross my mind there would be a problem with it being brand new,never even took it out of the plastic sleeve:o

    In which case you may have a problem, BUT... you need to call their bluff!

    Go through the problem solving with them, then if it doesn't work, as them to return the phone, and once you have received it back and checked the IMEI number and verified that it's the same phone that has been sent back, you will issue them with a full refund.

    IF they then return it, do you best to spot if it's the same one. If you sure it is, then send it back to wherever you got it from and exchange it for one that DOES work.

    It's not unknown for electronic items to be damaged from the box. I've had a laptop with a funny CTRL key, a phone with a mild software quirk, a pot of paint that was sealed but dried up in the sealed pot and so on.

    You need to treat this seriously; the buyer may raise a dispute and leave a neg, whether genuine or not; you are not IMO in the position to 'call their bluff' or whatever.

    What you can't do is leave them with a faulty phone, and I would not be trying to get out of it - put yourself in their shoes; how would you like it if someone sold you a dodgy phone then intimidated you into dropping the case? You'd go directly to dispute, and rightly so.

    All these people are trying to be helpful, warn you about scams etc, but you cannot sell something to someone and then have it go faulty and not have to refund them.

    If they are telling you that there is a specific fault with it then it's fairly likely to be true; very few people can make faults up on the fly, and very few people perpetrate scams. You need to get it back and complain to the competition organiser or to the manufacturer yourself.

    IIRC is the imea not on the box aswell as the phone? so if he is at it, and sends his ph9one back in your box, you can match the numbers up?

    According to me you should go to nokia site and launch the complaint and plz note down the emei no which is written at the back side of phone under battery. After launching the complaint they would take a complete action.
    Or the person who had gifted you the phone talk to him that the phone that they had gifted you is defected.
