Persec/Opsec and the individual Regiments/Corps normally set out the rules.

Personally I am under a pseudonem and am not in any way connected to my husband other than as a friend. Anyone that starts bleating about th army on my friends list gets deleted after sending them a message, simple as. You might view that as over the top but I would rather be safe than sorry.

i am staggered that you had to ask the question
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

I once attended a brief where the Military Police came across a picture online. The picture was of an unknown british soldier holding a local football team flag.

They could tell his rank, and his regiment from his uniform straight away. Unfortunately for him, this was facebook. So they clicked on the tag for the photo, can came to his profile. Unfortunately the facebook profile was private and they only knew his name.

They worked out who the local football team was, which gave them a background for a town. They then used 192.com to search for his name/location, which they found his parents address.

and then the story carried on as they found more and more pictures online...

    They knew -

    His name / DOB
    His regiment
    His parents address
His girlfriend & what she looked like
    What his car looked like

It eventually got worse as they started to post pictures of him on OPS, which the picture he was in. Alot more people were tagged in the photo, so you could imagine how they could go into them.

So, want to know whats really on facebook? Un-friend your partner. Login as them, and check out your own profile. I think you might be suprised at what exactly can be seen by others..
