Packaging Baked Goods for Posting??

Hi Folks

I've searched the threads and can't find anything although, I'm sure it will be in there.

What do people using for packaging when posting Baked Goods as pressies? I'm thinking of shortbread and things for Christmas. They need to be posted and will prob take 1-3 days. Normally when giving them as pressies, i just use the lakeland bags tied with a ribbon.

At mo I'm thinking of the clear presentations bags inside an airtight tin. But wonder would shortbread survive in same tin as fudge or cake? If I sealed the plastic presentation bags would they keep biscuits from being soggy? Next time I'm baking I'll do a trial.

Any idea's much appreciated.

Thanks
Slim.

Have you considered how much the postage will cost for the "baked goods". I have given up sending parcels at birthdays/xmas, I was spending as much, if not more, on the postage than I had spent on the gift. Now all my distant friends and rellies have "wish lists" on Amazon ... not the same I know but it works for me.
  • If you can get a postage box of similar dimensions to the boxes used by Graze, you can lightly wrap your presentation bags with bubblewrap and pop them in the box, and it can go Large letter.

Thanks folks. Only a few people for the homebakes. My Mum is v fond of my husband's shortbread & we won't be home this Christmas. My concern about the Lakeland bags is I don't think I can get them air tight. Shortbread etc will be soggy by time arrives. :( not keen on sending In tin/plastic boxes because of postage costs, but at the moment that seems to be the only way.
    Any advice much appreciated thanks.
  • I did shortbread/olive oil crispbreads/cookies etc in my hampers last year and they were fine for several days in the Lakeland bags. What about expelling as much air as you can, crimping the bag tight and using a slim cable tie to tightly seal? You can trim the end and pop ribbon over the top for prettiness sake!

Excellent only really need to last a couple of days.

Was going to do a trial run to see how long they lasted. Normally keep in airtight tin and only prettify just before handing over. Have never lasted long enough to go soggy :D

as this has dropped way down the OS board, ive moved it to the ebay board as you may get some ideas over here

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. The only service that wil guarantee you next day delivery is special and that is going to make your goodies mega expensive. If you use 1st class it is not a guaranteed service and can take 3 days.even first class is going to cost you £2.70 unless you can pay extra for special boxes guaranteed to go as a large letter, but the width is actually very thin.
