Had ADSL filter in the line for years all worked fine.
All OK no problems for years.
Sent new BT router Business Hub 3.
New router set up dead easy running OK for about 4 or 5 hours then broadband light went off & could not connect to broadband.
Tried absolutely everything to fix it but no way would it connect.
Removed ADSL filter, connects & works fine !!!!

How are you connecting the hub to your phone socket without a filter? Its the wrong type of plug?

Can you explain what type of filter you are using?

Conventional ADSL filters for the UK have a BT standard plug and a RJ11 socket and a BT standard socket.

It's not possible to simply "take out" that type of filter without also changing other wiring, as the RJ11 plug on the router won't fit in a BT socket.

I think you need to speak to BT - if you use your phone the Broadband will almost certainly drop out. If it doesn't there is something very funny about your set-up. You probably have a lot of noise on your phoneline too - that is the data that the filter filters out.

Also - are you sure you are using the right cable? What were you sent with the hub?

Having said that, the connection a router goes into is straight through, no filter. A router will work perfectly well with a straight through BT631A to RJ11 adapter. Ypu might have problems if you use such an adapter on the router lead and then plug it into the BT socket on an ADSL filter.

It is the phone connection which is filtered and a filter must be used on every non ADSL device.

The ADSL filter is a low pass filter to the phone connection, the ADSL signal passes through unfiltered.

It just occurred to me - were you plugging the router into the telephone part of the filter?

So when you use the correct RJ11 to RJ11 cable and connect to the ADSL side of the filter and plug it directly into your master socket it does not work?

If you are plugging the RJ11 end into the router and the BT end into the BT socket side of a filter, it is unlikely to work. It should be plugged straight into the BT socket on the wall. ADSL routers do not need filters. It is everything else which requires them.
