Woolacombe Bay, Golden Coast or Ruda at Croyde, older kids, motorhome, rain

Ok just picked up my first Motorhome and going away just for weekend. Kids 9 to 13 plus its going to rain.
Which do you think the kids would enjoy more?
Note not worried about accom standards as we now have our own home:)

  • Out of them all id probably say Golden Coast as it has so many facilities onsite, saying that ive never been to Ruda to really know whats there onsite but of course you will have the benefit of not having to move motorhome to go to the beach.

If you havent already found ukcampsite.co.uk i suggest you look at reviews on there, if you post the same question im sure your get lots more advice.

Where ever you end up im sure you will have a great first outing in your new motorhome.
  • Congrats on the new motorhome Claire21.Like Glosflamingo i would agree Golden Coast in Woolacombe is probably a good choice for facilities and kept my 2 kids (7 amd 12) entertained for the duration of our holiday.

We stayed on a pea shingled pitch and did not really have any problems with rain as they drain very well, thank goodness as would hate to be stuck.

UkCampsites.co.uk do have some good reviews if you are touring around the country.:)

I stayed at Woolacombe bay on a £9.50 holiday a couple of years ago, not somewhere Id go back to.. Caravan was filthy (I know you're not staying in one of theirs but still..) the "clubhouse" was very dark and drab. I hated every minute of staying there. Its nowhere near the beach or anything (although they did run a free bus into Woolacombe)

Out of those I'd go for Ruda, its a lovely park and literally just over the road from an amazing beach. Not toured there myself but you can clearly see the touring area and it all looks really well kept. Ruda is one of my fave places and have probably been there 8 or 9 times now...
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

    Thanks all for your thoughts.
In the end we went with Golden Coast as we are only there friday late, sat and sun til early afternoon. What with the weather being like it is I dont think we will be on the beach much and that was the big draw with Ruda, so I think Golden Coast might have more stuff for the 3 kids, it seems they have done a lot of additional work over the winter adding more things for the kids to do to the complex.

Also found their blog and they have a beer festival on Sat

Well we survived our first trip!

Really good place for the kids, staff really nice and loads to do.

The pay for activites could be purchased individually but we got the kids a £32 ticket each, the woolacombe wave surf machine was fantastic and i did this with them paying £20 for my ticket, inc in their tickets was the wave surf, high ropes course you get 3 turns round it a bit scary for the 9 year old but she soon got the hang of it, rock wall climbing, water walkers, bungee trampoline and bungie run. I thought it was good value.

They swam in ourdoor pool with the slides, one of the indoor pools and we did crazy golf. Night time entertainment was ok and we all did bingo, funny how the kids loved it and made a nice change to the xbox lol.

The pub on the site outskirts had a good play area and as the beer festival was on had some good bands playing plus the kids rode the bucking bronco.

    Well, we havent stopped.

Done a lovely site in Charmouth, 5 mins walk to the pub, 15 mins to the beach and a great club house on the site.

Next was 2 days in a quiet site on the edge of Dartmoor with a river running through it, the onto Perran sands haven site in Cornwall, nice camping in sand dunes but the weather changed part way though the week so we came home early, why had noone mentioned the hill of death to get back up from the beach lol, but £5 taxi got us down into Perranporth which avoided the horrible hill.

Weather picking up Wednesday, so just booked wed thurs and fri at Ruda, so hopefully 3 days on the beach so the kids can bodyboard.

Im loving my motorhome, France for 2 weeks in the Loire Valley from 17 August, roll on.

Ruda on Croyde Bay was by far the best place so far. A 5 min flat walk to the beach for body boarding. Good food, nice pitch and kids liked the pool.

    PLUS it was sunny!
