Anyone here live in Perth, Scotland?

Contemplating a move to Perth/Perthshire. Can anyone offer any advice in areas to avoid and nice areas to stay?
Being near a school doesn't matter as we have no children.
Prefer to be close to some shops or a supermarket.
Not keen on village life but somewhere in between would be OK. I'm a city dweller at heart so pushing it already moving to a smaller city.
Close to open areas like parks or woods as have 3 dogs.

Thanks :)

Despite Perth regaining its city status this year it's a stretch to really consider it a city, so if you want the facilities offered by a city I don't think you'd want to consider anywhere else in Perthshire. I don't live there so I'd be reluctant to recommend specific areas, but I would imagine a search on pspc.co.uk will give you a reasonable guide based on price. The good thing is that it's a small place with some big parks within the city and lots more areas for dog walking on the outskirts.

I know about the city status. Not a deal breaker as Perth is still big enough and offers enough facilities. Will be doing a lot of travelling to Edinburgh/Glasgow and the Borders so have picked out Perth as a central base and where housing is more affordable. A quick look around and a 3 bed house can be picked up for less than £200K.
  • I live in Dunblane, it is a lovely small town, with plenty of green space. It has a small supermarket (a larger one is planned a little out of the centre), a lovely thriving high street. And there are good rail links with the rest of Scotland, Glasgow less than an hour and Edinburgh just about an hour away.

I have only been here about a year, and truly love it.

Dunblane is nice but out of the question. Must be Perth or just outside.

Have you considered Dundee ? It's only 23 miles further away (from City Centre) or the sleepy places round about?

Longforgan, Liff, Invergowrie, to name a few.

Oh and in Dundee is not short of Supermarkets, we currently have 1 Sainsburys, 1 Morrisons, 1 NISI, 1 Co-op, 2 Asda's with Tesco making big noises about the 3rd, Oh and 8 Tesco's to date. ( a mix of extra's, metro's and express).

I wouldn't really describe Perth as central. You're 60 miles from Glasgow and 40 from Edinburgh and well north of both!

Have you thought about Stirling? House prices are still reasonable but you would actually be in the 'Central belt' and very well placed for Glasgow/Edinburgh by both train and road.

My good half is going to be based in Perth and the north so unable to move to Stirling as too far south. Dundee is a possibility but we don't really like it. It's not affectionately known as Scumdee for nothing lol.
Thanks for the comments so far.

You can get a lot of info from google maps - turn on the satellite overlay and look for the big white sheds. These are the retail and commercial parks, and usually google overlays the business name onto them. I've got Asda picked out already from less than a 2 minute looksee.

Perth isn't huge, so shouldn't be too hard to find..... this will get you the bigger stores, but perhaps not the Tesco Express type, which are sometimes in older buildings.
