Just booked some cheap flights to Barcelona for me, hubbie and 13 yr old son. Now want some cheap digs. Want to be near Barcelona but not stay there. Neat to the theme park place but not in it. Not in Salou. near to a beach.
Please help we have never been to this area before and this is the first time we have been without our eldest son so we are trying to find a place that youngest will enjoy. Limited funds this year so any info on good deals will be appreciated or good hotel booking sites.

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

Can't help with accomodation I'm afraid..we stayed in the city. Just a word of warning about the trains though. On our trip, the trains from Port Avenutura were abysmal. We got there OK from Barcelona Central, finished our day in the park aiming to get the 5pm train according to the time table. (The actual park is a good brisk 20 min walk from the platform.) No train appeared, then three went past without stopping. There were two more trains timetabled to stop at Aventura, but we were still there at 8.30 pm at night, it was October and getting cold. Place was deserted, no locals to ask, but there were about ten other Brit adults in the same boat so we felt safe for some reason...also reasoned we couldn't all have read the timetable wrong :)anyway, train eventually came at 9pm, no explanation, no apology just a shrug from the attendant.

try staying in the resort ofla pineda about 10 minutes north of salou with its own excellent beach and water park. plenty of buses go direct to theme park and up to tarragona where you can change bus or train to barcelona.

Sanguli holiday park is great. Its open April till October. 100 yards from beach.You can stay in Mobile homes or lodges.

You don't say how long you're going for?
Assuming you're going to the main airport (and not Girona) and you want to see Barcelona, you might as well book an apartment in the City for a few nights at the beginning or end of your trip. It's more than a one day sightseeing trip and you save time on the hassle of getting trains in.

I'm going on Tuesday for the football and sightseeing and we've booked this place. Works out about 15pppn in a big 6 berth apartment with all mod cons.
