Paying Tesco CC online

Hello.

A few weeks back (just after the big change) I tried to add my debit card to my Tesco CC online account so I could make payments without having to phone up.

It automatically put my card type as "Delta", and there was/is no way to change this. However, the card is a Visa debit and I now find myself unable to make payments online. I'm assuming that the bank is rejecting them because it's got the wrong card type, as all other details are correct. Deleting and adding it as a new card now still puts it as a Delta.

When I called up to make a payment today I asked about this and was told they system is still "adjusting" and they can't do anything about it. Does anyone else have this issue - and perhaps a more informative answer from Tesco on when it might be resolved?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your "technical issues". Can you make payments online via your bank account whilst this is happening? I'm with LloydsTSB and make the odd payment direct from them rather than using a debit card through the Tesco site. With Faster Payments it should hit Tesco CC the same day.
If you can stand navigating the "Press 1 for 'Keep me on hold for ages'" phone system, it might be worth ringing back and speaking to somebody else. Some call centre staff seem to be much more on the ball than others. And ask how you go about complaining about the situation as it's inconveniencing you through no fault of your own. What's the worst that can happen? They give you a fiver for your trouble?

Good luck. I hope it gets sorted soon.
  • no reason why deleting the card and then adding the card again shouldn't resolve the issue, their systems shouldn't be 'remembering' the card as it seems to be doing cos then you could argue its not really deleted has it?

    what a disaster

in the meantime just make payments through your banks online system, should reach same day too

Ah, yes, the old "turn it off and on again"!! That would probably be easiest. I just logged onto my Tesco CC account but, as I don't have a debit card set up, I can't tell whether there's a facility to delete a card online. If not, they should be able to sort it by phone, I would hope.

Thank you everyone. The operator I spoke to today said that they couldn't do anything - I'm not sure I really believe that!

I'm on a 0% deal at the moment, with a DD set up for the minimum, but I want to keep a good buffer between the balance and the credit limit - hence the extra payments. I've always paid in full by DD, so making extra payments is a bit unfamiliar :)

I suppose phoning them up to pay isn't the end of the world, but I will set up a payment via my online banking - thanks for the suggestion.
