Redundancies questions - please help!

Options
If given three months notice of redundancy and placed on "gardening leave" what happens if I see another job that I wish to apply for? If successful with the application, do I lose my redundancy pay? And what about the notice money?

If a valid mortgage protection is held, at what stage do we notify them? Is it immediately redundancy is confirmed, or at the end of the three months notice period? If a successful claim is made, does that rule out registering with agencies in the hope of picking up work on a weekly basis?

I have so many questions swimming around my head but am in a state of limbo until final confirmation is received.

(Please note, I have used a new user name for this as I do not wish for family to pick up on this news yet.)

Thanks in advance.

When on Garden leave you are sat at home getting paid, but can be called back at any time within the 3 months.
if you get another job,the garden leave ends meaning you wont get paid for the remainder of the time left of that garden leave.
It will not affect your redundancy pay,you still get that.

Cant help you with the other questions sorry.

Not necessarily. Contractual notice isn't the thing that counts, it's statutory notice. This explains it better than I can http://www.redundancyforum.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions/5166-serving-counter-notice/

The advice I received from ACAS a few years ago, as an employer, was that getting another job only affected redundancy payouts if you had taken the case to a tribunal and won compensation. The level of compensation awarded would depend on how much you had lost.
Getting a much better paid job a week later would obviously be different from being unemployed or forced to accept a low-paid job when you had been a banker.

Well that wouldn't be true. So you either misunderstood the advice, the advice was wrong, or the circumstances in your situation were specific. The law says that entitlement to redundancy pay arises only in the statutory notice period, which is not always the same as the contractual notice period.
