Where to buy bathrooms from?

Ok so we recently bought our own house and the only room we really want to do any work on is the bathroom. It currently has a pink bathroom suite and no storage which for a family of 3 is a bit of a pain.

We had been to B&Q and have them price up what we want but it came out ridiculously expensive.

I have had a look around on the internet and found a good website where we could get what we what for half the price of B&Q. The only problem being they don't do the bathroom furniture (vanity sink unit & back to wall toilet unit) in walnut which I have my heart set on.:(

Can anyone recommend a good company where we should be looking?

We are after:
  • RH P shaped bath with showr curtain
  • Walnut vanity unit with sink
  • Walnut toilet unit with toilet
  • Small heated chrome towel rail
We already have the taps so would only need the wastes ontop of above.

Thanks:)

Try you local independent plumbers merchants. They will have a wide range of suites etc and normally have access to a wide range of suppliers for cabinets and furniture. You will normally get far better service and prices.

We have just had our bathroom done and got our things from VIctoria plumb we were really impressed with price and quality we got a corner loo for £99 a similar one in b&q and home base was £199, the shower bath was better quality than a b&q one as you could nearly see the theirs the Victoria plumb one is reinforced.

Don't rule out small indpendant retailers, who can get whatever you want and can do the complete service for you.

I don't mean co's like moben, dolphin etc. Look at the likes of joe bloggs and sons etc who do CH,fireplaces,Tiling bathrooms etc. There are a lot out there who can do the job, make your life a lot easier, be a damn site cheaper than the sheds and get you everything you want.

I know I am in the fireplace business, but I have a friend of mine, who runs his own fireplace shop. He also does CH. he also has bathrooms on display . He did the whole lot for me, so well in fact that I got him to do the rest of the renovation work on my house, it was cheaper and easier for me to do that, than get it done myself. He project managed the whole lot.

Don't be put off by the small independants, there is a reason why they are still in business, they do a great job and take most of the pressure away for you. If you alos buy from them, any hassle is for them to sort out, not you as would be the problem if you buy off the internet or the likes of B&Q

I had a terrible experience with Victoria Plumb recently and would never recommend them. I ordered a vanity unit/basin and taps from them. The delivery charges were extremely expensive. They charged for my delivery as a large item even though the packages were small and not heavy. I was in a hurry so paid extra for delivery. The first vanity unit was badly damaged so they sent another one. That was also badly damaged. They were supposed to send another one but sent a basin instead, even though there was nothing wrong with the original basin, so I refused delivery. They were totally unapologetic and disinterested in all these problems and I got the impression that they were very used to complaints.

I cancelled the fourth delivery and asked for a refund and the return of the delivery charges. I returned the tap to them as it was not suitable for the vanity unit/basin I had found elsewhere (I needed a tall tap for the new sink). They wanted me to return the tap to them at my own expense and I am sure the postage charges would have been high as taps are heavy! Eventually they agreed to collect the tap and give me a refund for the total order plus the delivery charges. They did not want to collect the basin and 2 vanity units, even though the basin wasn't damaged.

I bought my vanity unit from Better Bathrooms. I found one I liked on the internet, more expensive than the Victoria Plumb one but a lot nicer. I could have ordered it on the internet for home delivery but because of my previous experience I wanted to see what I was buying. I went to one of their showrooms and had a look, paid for it and went to their warehouse to collect it. They bring the goods out and unpack them to you can inspect them before taking them away. I did end up going through about 5 or 6 of them because there was slight damage on a few of them. One of them looked OK to me but the warehouse man saw a fault and went to get another replacement. The only problem I had with them was the guy in the showroom who was totally disinterested. If I hadn't already seen what I liked then I would have walked out of the shopl.

I got a shower cubicle from WD bathrooms. They delivered on a Sunday at no extra charge. I can't remember who I bought my shower from, will post back later when I do. I had no problem with either company. I got tiles from Tile HQ, 11 boxes and no damaged tiles at all. They were much cheaper than anywhere on the high street.

I hope some of this is of some help to someone!

I would recommend a local merchant rather than a shed suite

Whatever you do, don't make the same mistake as us and other MSE's and use this independent retailer.

We we're looking at Victoria plumb but they don't do the toilet unit in walnut so are looking elsewhere.

    Will avoid JA Bathrooms too

Did you read my earlier post? I rambled on a bit because I do tend to go on a bit to try to warn people off Victoria Plumb! However, I did also mention that I bought a vanity unit from Better Bathrooms and was very happy.
