Could I just ask, why didn't you reclaimm these 5 years ago when you first posted on this forum?

Your delay could prove to have been very expensive indeed ;)

I was in a very bad place at that time and didnt have the confidence to reclaim then as I was scared that my bank account would be closed down. Since then I have worked very hard to pay back all that I owe. Looking back I should have claimed then but hindsight is a marvellous thing.

  • Hi im hoping for a bit of advice.... a few years ago when i was at uni i had a credit card and overdraft with Halifax. I was struggling to pay the monthly amount on my credit card and ended up in arrears, resulting in monthly charges. In the mean time i had been to the bank to see if they could stop the interest/ chargeson the credit card so i would be able to catch up only to be told as i had missed full payment amounts on credit card my overdraft would be cancelled from that date also resulting in charges. I was hoping that someone would be able to give me any advice on claiming back these charges as i have read the guides and they do not mention claiming back if defaulted. Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong with charges being made. The banks won the court case in 2009.
I would like to know how I stand with this

You stand exactly where you are now.
it put me into financial difficulties at the time.

Its more likely that you spending money you didnt have put you in difficulty. However, its all totally irrelevant. Banks will only consider helping current customers in CURRENT financial hardship. And in those cases, it often results in no refund being made. They could put in place debt management plans (which can result in your debit card being revoked), suspending of future charges or educating your on better money management (such as opening a number 2 account for bills with a payment going into it just after payday - what used to be known years ago as budget accounts).
