Does double house insurance cover actually make it null & void??

Hi all

Going through my partners bank statements yesterday, I noticed 2 monthly DDs of £20odd each going to Legal & General for House Insurance, an amount which has been deducted every month since 2010, although one seems to have stopped in the last few months.

This is a mistake as I organised House insurance through Santander last year and LTSB this year, both of which were paid by CC.

Now don't get me started on much of an idiot he has been to not check his statements more thoroughly, he insisted that he had rang through to cancel both policies at the time of renewal (they wouldn't talk to me as they are both in his name only) but never checked to make sure the payments had stopped. He did say he received a cheque payment for overcharges at one stage but cannot remember when.

I am going to get him to ring this afternoon to make sure they are cancelled but wanted to check:

1) is there any way of getting this money back?
2) will this affect our current house insurance if we ever have to claim?
3) will I get into much trouble if I bash him across the bake for being such a clueless idiot?

    There are 'dual insurance' procedures which all Insurers have in place and deal with on a daily basis. The policyholder needs to contact both companies who had provided duplicate cover for a period and ask about this. They may have to send him forms to complete and he may need to send details of the other Insurance.

    Because in the event of a claim, it is possible each Insurers would have to contribute towards the loss, what they normally do, is for each Insurers to refund 50% of the premiums paid, if there had not been any claims. For policy years where there had been claims, the company who paid the claims will not refund, but the other Insurers who didn't pay a claim, would refund 100%.

    With this info, he will need to contact each Insurers and follow their processes that they have.
