Hi guys can I have your input please? Im planning of hosting a 5 year old party for my Nephew. Im thinking instead of masses of food that just going to gwt wasted of making up boxes off food for each child like you buy in places like BHS cafe etc. Infact its there that gave me the idea.
Ive sourced the boxes that work out to be about 40p each:o delivered on Ebay. I was going to add either a ham, cheese or jam sandwich (just 2 triangles) a fube tube yogurt, cup drink, small 10p pack of Haribo, pack of hula hoops and a little fairy cake/mini roll.
In your opinion does this sound ok? too much or too little or not a good idea do you think?
The recent trend where I am is so give all children a McDonalds happy meal but at £2.29p thata a bit:eek: for me
Would you be put off as a parent with your child being given a box of party food?

I wouldn't mind at all, sounds like a nice idea. My son is 5 and would happily pick his way through a little box of treats like that. You might be able to do without the cake, particularly if you are having a big birthday cake too?

I think your idea sounds perfect, a good amount for children to eat. Much healthier than a happy meal too! I think Children would be excited to get a little bag like that. Could you include a couple of party bag toys / stickers too so it can double as their party bag also!?

I did this for my 5 year old in January, it was great.
It was easy to clear up and we had possitive comments from the parents too.
I would deffinately consider this again.

thanks so much! I can add a couple of treats in there easily. I managed to get a load of pencils and rubbers cheap when a shop was closing down so party bags wont be costing too much hopefully. Whats normal is one of these party bags nowadays (yes the happy meal party had pre-bought ones from Ebay
I was thinking a slice of cake, pencil with matching rubber (Disney Princess for girls and Cars for boys) packet of Haribo as they seam favourite I guess I could look for some little note books as well

+We had a pirate party for ds and had the treasure box party boxes it contained a fruit shoot, ham sandwich, cheese string, raisins, yogurt in a pouch and a packet of crisps. I had cup cake towers that i put out once children had started to finish, i didn't put them directly in the box because kids will try to eat that first. I then did separate party bags to take home, a little bit more expensive this way but party bags *£1 for 10 so not hugely so

Depends on what your attitude to food waste is.
Personally I'd happily keep anything edible that was left on the serving table to eat for the next couple of lunches.
But I wouldn't want to eat what had been on other people's children's plates or in their boxes.

So for me the idea of having food laid out on one table and the children choose (with adult supervision) what they want would produce less waste.

I think this is a lovely idea! My kids would love that! If you have quite a few kids going I recommend some of the party pack foods at Iceland but love the idea of giving the boxes a theme too.

Might give this a go at for the next birthday party I throw :)

I did this for my daughter's 5th birthday, and the guests loved it.
I got plain white cake boxes from a local bakers, who charged 20p each. I decorated them with each child's name, and stickers or pictures cut from comics, and put the party food in them.
After the kids had eaten, I retrieved the boxes, and used them to put stuff in as an alternative to party bags. Really very MSE, as saved on paper plates, napkins and bags!

I have just done this for my little boys party, we had fruit shoot, cheese sandwich, couple of mini sausage rolls, little box of raisins and choc dip. Bought the boxes from Macro (think they were about £5 for 20)

my friend did something similar for her son. she made starwars placemats with each child's name on (cheaply done by printing off the computer and laminating them!) then a few adults went around with different sandwiches so the children could choose; they also got a bag of fruit, crisps and cupcakes.
