Can this website 'prove' I watched video's from it's site or have to pay charges?

Basically I had my old debit-card details on this website which I forgot about. When I added credits on the site however, the on-line credits still went through fine and I was allowed to watch video's. I only watched one which cost £6.50 of credits, but this money was never taken out from my account.

They've now just sent me a letter stating I owe them the £6.50 plus £20, when it should only be £6.50. In their letter they have one reference number number next to the £6.50 but no reference next to the £20.

Should I just send them a prove-it letter, or just pay it? Thanks

If it's a reputable company then they will most certainly be able to prove it.

As an IT professional myself, I highly suspect their engineers will be able to trace and have exact details of the viewings.

I would say just pay - it's not worth running up charges or getting in to trouble over £26.50 in my opinion, especially when you know that you viewed pay-per view content from their site :D

I do owe them the £6.50. basically my old card details were registered with them, but I was still able to receive £6.50 worth of credits (not actually money here) on their website. Usually the money comes out of my bank account a few days later, but it never did. I would be more than happy to pay the £6.50, but they make no reference as to where this additional £20 originates from...

£26.50 is alot to me, I'm afraid. The fact is I only credited £6.50 to my account, yet you're still insisting I pay them an additional £20? Will they be able to somehow falsely prove that I added a further £20 worth of credit's to my account then?
There is no reference number next to the £20 charge, and so I suspect this is their 'admin' charge. Why should I pay this? I am more than happy to pay what I owe, but this simply isn't the case.

Should I have to pay the extra £20? Thanks.

It depends what the terms & conditions you agreed to states.

It would be normal for there to be some sort of fee if a creditor is unable to take a payment from your account.

By old debit card - do you mean an expired card on your current bank account, or an old card linked to a bank account you no longer use (but not yet expired).
Assuming the former then it might be worth contacting them, stating that you hadn't realised the card details they had had expired and as it wasn't flagged on their system they obviously hadn't either - and suggesting that you pay the £6.50 and seeing if they will agree to waiver the charge.

The other option would be to pay the £6.50, check the term & conditions, see if the fee is mentioned anywhere - and if not write to them to query the additional charge.

yes I mean that re:BIB. Should I contact the collections agency or the company itself? Also the actual website closed my account shortly after my last viewing (but a few weeks before the letters from the collections agency) due to me not using my account often enough, so don't think I can check my terms and conditions....

Could it be you used an expired card and didn't actually pay the £6.50 because of it resulting in a charge? Could be worth checking there terms and conditions, or googling to see if this has happened to anyone else.

    Ask them!

It is most likely an admin charge and understandable when you realised the payment had not gone through but did not contact them to say the card had expired, here are new details!
