Yes OP, as vaio above says you don't pay the excess on the third party repairs, only if you are claiming for your own vehicle to be repaired. So insurance for the van and pay yourself fo your own car.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

don't forget the excess only applies to the damage to your car, by the sound of it you'd still be better off paying the £90 and repairing it yourself

I wish that was the case! On the back of my Motor Policy Schedule, it says...

    Excess details:

an excess is the amount you must pay in the event of any claim, regardless of who is to blame for an incident.

    (i) If you have a claim and have comprehensive cover, the following excesses apply: (remember you must had the relevant compulsory and voluntary excesses together to calculate the total amount you must pay in the event of any claim made).

Age of driver in charge at time of accident _ | Compulsory + Voluntary = Total
    Over 25 with full UK Licence for at least 1 year | _ _ _ £0.00_+_£500.00 _ =_£500.00
    So not the drama.

Practice reversing on to your drive, it will prevent any further mishaps.

    Are you making a claim?

You say your costs are £90, so pointless claiming!

(As posted (#2), forget about having to pay anything at all if this is just a third party claim)

Read up in your policy regarding what is covered (and not covered) when a third party claims against you.
  • If its any comfort, my neighbour backed into my daughter's car about a year ago. Just like you, there was not much damage and if it had been my car I might have just put up with it but daughter was proud of her new (Y reg!) car and wanted it repaired. Local bodge it shop wanted about £360. It would have been OK but not insurance standard. In the end he wanted it put through his insurance, who had it mended by their garage - a local well know dealer - who wanted over £1100 for it. They did a nice job mind.
  • Update
Spoken to insurer - they will handle the van's repair cost/negotiation and I don't have to pay any excess!

Thanks for the advice everyone :)
