Anyone been to the Edinburgh Tattoo & Fringe?

Hope someone can help...
I'm planning on seeing the Tattoo on Sat 4th August at the 7:30pm showing, then hopefully getting to the Underbelly at Bristo Square to see a Fringe show.
According to the tattoo website, it lasts for 1.5 hours, so should be finished at 9pm.
So I just want to know if I'll be able to make the 9:40 show at the Bristo Square? i.e. does it take a bit of time for x-thousand people to clear the esplanade after the tattoo?
It looks easily do-able on the map, and the tattoo has another show at 10pm so presumably they'll get people out quick-sharpish for that show?
Also, on the Friday 3rd i've got a meal booked at 6:30pm at a place just North of Princes street, and want to get to a fringe show at 8:00pm at Pleasance Courtyard, will that be cutting it fine??
Thanks in advance!
Joe

You are unlikely to make the show after the meal - unless you are having MacDonalds. It's about a mile between the two but with a combination of several things like traffic lights, crossing roads, going uphill, going downhill it'll take around 20 minutes from the east end of Princes (ie the Balmoral end). From the west end it would be another 20 minutes on top of that though you could get a bus to Nicholson Street then walk.
As for the Tattoo & show, it's a 10 minute walk to the Underbelly at Bristo Square (5 minutes to Underbelly on Victoria Street / Cowgate) so you should make it unless you are in the furthest flung corners of the Tattoo stands.
BTW I thought the late evening show was 10:30 so it finishes at midnight0 -
Thanks Alan,
Think we'll have to look at another show for the Friday night then, and/or change the meal.
There's another show on at 9:05pm at the Assembly Geroge Square which seems more do-able...
There seems to be plenty of choice mind!alanrowell wrote: »BTW I thought the late evening show was 10:30 so it finishes at midnight
Yup, you're right there, I was getting confused after looking at many different starting times for different shows etc
Thanks once again,
Joe
