Anyone used moneygram ?

Hi my dd is currently working abroad in Greece and has managed to save a bit of cash which she wants to send home. No bank account as just there for summer season. She has seen a local post office with moneygram and wants to send money this way. Anyone know how this works. Can she go in with cash and send it ? TIA x

I'm sure she can, but she would pay for the convenience in the form of fees and exchange rate. If she is in contact with British tourists, her best option would be to swap her Euro for their pounds.
  • Moneygram can be pretty pricey , but it is reliable and fast. Their currency exchange rate is also not the best, but I guess it depends on each country.

If she takes her money in, she`ll be handed a form to complete and then receive a reference number which you`ll need when you go to a MoneyGram agent here to pick up the money she sent ( assuming she is sending them to you?)

I`m not sure about the receiving money process as I`ve only ever used it to send, but I know you`ll need ID and the reference number she was given .

An alternative to MoneyGram is Western Union , that I know of, but I couldn`t say which one is cheaper.

Yes. I have sent money to Baghdad via Moneygram, and it was fast and pain-free and reliable. (For charitable purposes, I hasten to clarify, not for weapons or anything like that.) If Moneygram works so well in such a "challenging" environment as Baghdad/Iraq, I imagine it does the same elswhere.

Don't use Western Union. Google them to find out other people's experiences - many never see their money again.

If she's coming back why not just bring it with her?

never had a problem sending money with Moneygram. But as Bob says, does she not feel safe enough just bringing home her money with her?
