Sounds like your bar job payroll dept has made the mistake, they have incorrectly amended your tax code. did they ask you to fill in a P46 if so what box did you check.

I just wondering where they managed to pluck a 489L coding from this is the basic coding for 2005/06 I dread to think what thier doing to your wages if they are this far behind the rest of us

Get in touch with HMRC about the tax you owe. Speak to them about employers error, if the employer has incorrectly assigned a coding resulting in undercollected tax from an employee they should foot the bill for the difference.

The bar job manager asked to see my last P60 (from my main job) when I joined in September. That is the tax code on it. They did not ask me to fill in any forms. I have just looked at my last monthly payslip from my MAIN job and the code is 503L.

The 503L tax code is right.

You need to get onto the tax office for the 2nd job though - they are definitely wrong.
