Help!! 2 agencies, 1 job

One of those OMG moments....

Agency A contacted me last week about a job (That I would love to be put forward for. Respected employer. Good conditions.) with a major employer who they work for, but the consultant wanted some more info from me (part of which is what I did on a daily basis in a job I had 11+ years ago-to be honest I'm struggling) and I'm speaking to her again tomorrow.

Today agency B has called me. I'm on quite "good" terms with this consultant-she is looking for a job for OH also and I have spoken to her many times. The job she described sounds exactly the same. I know this employer uses A+B She hasn't asked what I did on a daily basis 11 years ago

I'm just worried if both agencies put me forward will the employers discount me? Or should let them both go ahead? Or should I tell consultant A when I speak to her (I know agencies "fish" for info, so I'm always a bit wary what I tell them...) Don't want to put my foot in it....any advice appreciated X

Can you use the job spec to work out who the company is and apply direct? Or speak to the one you are in good contact with and if they think they are going to put you forward ask for the name of the company and say someone else has contacted you re the same job and you want to go with them as you have this contact already etc
  • Thanks for your reply MissSarah, so basically if both agencies go ahead I'll be discounted by the employer?

Sorry not sure how agencies work and just want to get it straight before I speak to them...

I am not sure there what would happen and if I was you id try for it NOT to happen. They would then have to prove that the agency got the CV to the employer first as they wont interview you twice so who gets the fee if you get the job?

Talk to one and get them to tell you who it is and get them to put you forward then contact the other and say you have been put forward for a role at joe bloogs ltd and see what they say. If its not the same people you have two jobs

I'd say that if neither agency has specifically told you who the job is for, then there is no need for you to be declaring anything. You can completely innocently be put forward for what you believe to be two separate jobs with two separate employers.

If your CV lands on the employer's desk twice, you have double the chance of them reading and considering it.

If they are then interested in taking it further and interviewing you, it's entirely their choice which agent they do that through.

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be registered with two agencies at the same time, and you can't be held responsible for them both submitting your CV to the same employer. In fact, if two agencies put you forward, it just goes to show what a good match you are for the role!

I can back you on that, employers will often get the same applicants CV from more than one agency. They will usually go by which one hits their desk first.

Not if you have identified the same job with 2 agencies first like the OP has. The advice here then is to let both put you forward.

Or the agency they have the best relationship with, or the one with the cheapest rate... or the one with a y in their name. Whatever - it's not the candidates problem or responsibility.
  • thanks all  I'm probably being a bit paranoid because I am so interested in this opportunity!

Agency A did mention the employer by name and to be fair are doing the leg work by asking me for additional info

Agency B didn't say who it was and aren't chasing me for additional info so I quess i could claim they didn't tell me who it was, how did I know it was for the same job?

I guess if the employer gets my CV twice all the better for me!

I am not sure that gives you two chances but still good luck

Why would the employer disregard you?

The only issue is that there will be a bunfight by the agencies over who is entitled to the fee if you get the job, but that's not your problem.
