Cooking oil on carpet

Had a bit of a disaster !! When taking the old cooking oil from the deep fat fryer to the bin outside, the bag it was in burst resulting in cooking oil all over the carpet.
Any ideas how I can get it out and what I should use ?
Thanks in advance.

Nightmare! I think I'd soak up the oil with flour or talc or something like that, clear that away and then shampoo the carpet. That might not be the correct thing to do, just my first instinct
Only myself to blame although its the first time thats ever happened on route to the bin

To be honest, I think you've ruined the carpet. It's likely there will always be a grease stain on it, no matter what you do to try and clean it away.
May have to write off the carpet, I reckon.0 -
Soak as much up as possible with kitchen towel or similar. Then use something like Fairy Liquid that's designed to break down fats and oils. After that hit it with a Vax or similar.
You may get luck

If it's kitchen carpet it's usually pretty tough stuff, usually looped and it'll stand a bit of scrubbing. Fairy Liquid foams quite a lot but you can get anti-foam to kill the foam when you wash the carpet. I've managed to get paint and even grease out of carpet with Swarfega but it's only been a small area. A plastic spatula or even an old credit card (bet Martin would approve) will help scrape the oil out of the pile of the carpet.0

Once you've managed to soak up as much of the oil, ( and talcum powder can be very good at absorbing oils) as well as other things suggested here, do ask around to see if you can find anybody with a decent steam cleaner you can borrow. These kind of cleaners are very good at breaking down many kinds of substances on carpets and furnishings. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Use newspaper to soak up as much as possible then steam clean!
Use a clothe(old towel) to cover end of steamer as you steam clean, stops the vapour spreading all over and help the breakdown process!
Will take a few goes though I expect?Signature removed0
