Help/Advice fitting Spur socket in kitchen for Oven

My mother just recently bought a twin oven for the kitchen and when they came to install it they realized that we didn't have a spur socket for the hard wire for the oven connection but instead we had a normal plug socket. Anyway I was about to get an electrician to install a spur socket but was wondering if it something I could do myself? Is it possible to just use the wiring from the exciting plug socket and just replace it with a spur socket or is there a lot more to it? Many Thanks

Depends whether the plug socket is on the dedicated Cooker Ring Main. A double oven needs to be connected to a dedicated cooker circuit.

That's interesting! My hob is gas so I guess it can't come from there? and as the existing double oven is old it could come from anywhere.

My house has dozens of existing plug sockets but none of them are in any way exciting.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Op you say your hob is gas, is the oven as well. Do you only need the electric for the fan and light.

The Hob is gas but the double oven is Electric, sorry! I believe its very old so was able to run into a normal plug socket. So the new one needs to be hard wired, I believe that's the term!! Thanks

It depends on the rating of the appliance. What is the rating?

Yes it will be to powerful for the ring main, you need to go back to the fusebox. Something i did in the past was we had a feed for an old shower which wasn't used anymore, so i used that cable for the cooker. But then when we got a new shower i had to get an electrician in anyway.
