Homeplug help

Options
I am having problems fully understanding homeplugs, I broadly understand how they work but, if I decide on a homeplug, do I just buy 2 of them? I would have thought there would have been 'transmitters' and 'receivers'?

I have an old pair of Netgear (54Mbps) wifi only powerline adapters (its a WGX102V2) - can I simply buy a new unit for the recieving end which has an ethernet port so I can used it to connect an ethernet cable to a blu-ray player?

Thanks

You need one plugged into your router and the 13amp socket, then you can have as many others wherever you need them. Each can handle send and receive.

So for example, if you have the router in the study, and pcs in each bedroom, you put one homeplug in the study, and one in each of the bedrooms.

Don't wish to make it more complicated, but you could put a wireless version (in additioon to the standard wired one in the study) in the bedroom, and it could probably cover both bedrooms.

Ideally you need to match the units, unfortunately the WGX102 is no longer available (there is one for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=WGX102&_sacat=0 )

You may need to contact netgear regarding compatibility of adding a different unit, or indeed talk to an expert at Solwise as they might know 0845 458 4558....

You say you have a pair, are they both the same? The model no you give is a wifi range extender and would normally be used along with an XE102 or similar, plugged into your router.
In any event, here's a link to the manual, which hopefully will help.

I would point out that these are Homeplug V1 devices and connect at 14Mb which will be fine for browsing the web in most cases but not much else. Check out the new Homeplug standards of 200Mb and above ( not compatible with what you have currently ).
