My sister has just bought a 42" for her 20 foot lounge.
She loves it, I hate it as I think it overpowers the room. Snob that I am I also think it looks common (my Hyacinth Bouquet tendencies surfacing again.)

Our 42" plasma seemed huge at first, but once it was up on the wall, it was amazing how quickly it became the norm, and anything smaller would seem really pokey now. Visitors are still impressed, unless they have their own, of course, in which case they tend to agree that the impression of size rapidly fades. We don't have a big room, but the picture on big plasmas is so good that there are really no restrictions on how far away you have to sit. Yes, they seem overpowering at first, but it doesn't last, and I think most people would be glad that they went for it.

We have a 42" plasma which did look massive on it's stand in the corner of the room, now that it is on the wall it doesn't look that big!!!!

Was my best ever purchase though...

Was bought 18 months ago when they were still going for £1100 - £1200. Saw it in my grattan catalogue for £1099.99. Had a code sent though the post for 15% off, went to purchase TV and it had been reduced to £999.99, used code and then got additional 10% commission off the price - total paid £764.99. Best part was they sent the wrong TV through!!! They sent the HD ready tv through, priced in their catalogue for £1499.99!!!

  • i'm probably gonna be shot down in flames here but i've been inspired by someone who says that the smaller their tv, the less they watch it. and i firmly believe that the more tv I watch, the more i find myself with urges to buy things that I don't need. Not just the things that are advertised, but the endless product placement / aspirational lifestyle nonsense you get these days, too. With this in mind I'm about to get rid of my tv, dvd recorder and PC, and replace with one small cheap laptop with 15" screen, and separate tv tuner. Possibly not an option for families, but anyone that doesn't have to worry about this, why not think about it? Wish me luck!

  • Bought a 42" plasma last July.
Currently broken and been taken away under warranty back to Philips.
We are having make do with a 14" portable.
    It's horrible!!!!!
When we get the Plasma back it's going to look so massive after watching the 'postage stamp' TV as my wife says :)

Sorry, slightly off subject, but how high do you fix an LCD or plasma to the wall? Reading the above it would seem that a 32/27 would be fine for us but do you get a sore neck if you fix it say, where a mirror would go, or does it go low down at the same height as if it is on a stand, which I think would look odd

  • I have a wall mounted 37inch plasma in a similar size room and it's fine. My mate has a 42 inch plas. in his lounge which is a bit bigger and a projector that displays an 84 inch screen now thats big telly but it's great for movies.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I've currently got a 43inch projection tv in the lounge but I've given into temptation and gone and bought the 50inch 3LCD Sony Bravia that's on offer at Argos for £799.99.
I'm a LFC supporter so I like to watch the footie on a big screen :)
