Hi
just wanted some advice surely this situation is not uncommon.
I work 30 miles away from home, if car breaks down i am stuck for work most the time, happened 3 times in the last year, two problems my employers are none to happy as i have not showed for work, with not going to work, i cant take these days as holiday, so had to take these days as unpaid.
Have RAC cover through my car insurance which has a courtesy car cover, so thought i was ok, but this is based on the garage i have my repairs to provide one, Repair garage are a very small firm so no joy with a courtesy car there.
Do i just join rac twice for example and take out onward bound cover. i am only 3 months into my insurance and current breakdown cover so would be like paying twice, as current insurers say they they cant add onward bound onto my current cover.

I think you need to consider selling your car and getting a better one rather than spending shed loads on extra insurances.
You also need to be more realistic. You get a mile down the road and your car breaks down. You ring the breakdown service and hey come within 40 minutes. The guy looks at it for ten minutes before deciding he can't fix it. Then loads it which takes another 15 mins. Off you set and you get to work an hour later. So it's now 11.00 in the morning. You won't get paid for that. Then the car is stuck at work. How re ou or it going to get home?

3 times in one year, Use the money to get a taxi?
Use a different garage?
I have had a car provided by the RAC in the past, It was a hire car not one supplied by a garage.
Been a while though.
What was the cause of the breakdowns? What car/age?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
not the best of replies, "get a better car" thanks for that i never thought of that.
my car is 7yrs old,
"get a taxi" 60mile round trip to work yeah thanks for that idea, This would prove cost effective.
any sensible suggestions.0 -
Sounds like you may need to put some money into a pot for renting a car when yours is broken. Or find a way of getting there using public transport (possibly with a taxi at one or both ends).0

RAC courtesy car cover is supposed to be a hire car. Every time I've used it it's been an Enterprise Rent-a-Corsa.0
