Closing an eBay listing early with 1 bid = BIN?

What happens if I close an eBay auction early whilst there is a bid in place?

I have a relatively cheap item with one bid from a previous buyer and it would suit us both to end the listing early.

[I think the chances of the item selling for much more are low and frankly, I'd rather sell to someone I know to be honest and above board than mess about with chancers and non-payers].

But if I were to close the listing early, would this have the result that the current bid would win at the early close of the listing and thus create a transaction? [Effectively converting the bid to a buy it now?]

Or would closing the auction listing early cancel the bid as well as the listing?

  • If you close the auction with the bid in place then the bidder will win at the opening bid price.

why didn't you put the starting price at a price you would be happy to sell at.

You are wasting that bidders time so you are being a bit hypocritical.

Thank you, that's exactly the perfect solution I was looking for. :money:

I did put the starting price at a price I am happy to sell - hence I'm happy to close the listing right now. :)

 The idea of closing the auction early (at a starting price I am happy to sell at) is to prevent wasting the bidder's time and my own, whilst we wait for the listing to finish.

No worries - all worked out well.

In case others have the same subsequent question, when you go to close the listing early, you have two options:

    1. To close the listing and cancel the bids. OR

    2. To close the listing at its current state, selling for the current auction price.
