Car insurance increase within contract for no reason?

Could anyone help please? I noticed that my car insurance has increased from £37 per month to £57 per month during the past 10 months. My contract with my insurer is for 12 months so when I asked them about the increase (I have not made any claims or have any penalties on my licence) they said the increase was due to an increased number of car insurance claims on the make and model of my car. Is this right? Can an insurance company increase your direct debits without even notifying you? This increase made me go over my planned overdraft and I have now had to pay bank charges because of it. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

They normally cannot increase mid term. Nor can they change the dd without telling you.

Get back to them over this!

Opening a case with the FOS is not as simple as this!

The OP needs to read up the complaints procedure in the policy document. Only after following this will they be able to take this to the FOS!

This sounds very wrong. Can you be a bit more specific about the dates? When was the renewal date and when was the first £57 payment?

    Ignore Vax.

Write to the insurer, as an official complaint, enclose details of your original payment agreement, and the agreed price for the year. Ask them why they have altered the DD agreement without notifying you in advance, and state you would like the original payment re-instated, a refund of the overpayments, and a payment to cover your bank charges. Request a response within two weeks.
Post back up if they reply, or then refer it to the FOS if they don't.

Just remember that whilst you can ask for an answer in whatever time period you like, the only requirement is for them to give a decision within 8 weeks.
