Painting a dining table

Hi
My dining table and chairs are looking rather worn and tired, I was thinking about rather than buying a new set recovering the seats and painting the table and chairs. Would this work or would they just look rubbish?
This is the table

you could paint it , and give it a new lease of life , however they are prone to chipping with everyday wear and tear .
if you want to go down the painting route you need to give everything a really good sand down , then give it a really good wash with sugar soap , then it will need priming , either use zinsser bullseye 123, or B.I.N primer . the 123 is water based , dries quickly and doesn't smeill , the BIN primer dries quickly , but has quite a strong smell. . once primed you could use something like dulux diamond satinwood - give it a couple of coats0 -
Do you really want a painted table and chairs, I'm guessing you don't or you would have bought that in the 1st place?
The prep to refinish is almost the same regardless of the finish, ie, it's all in the prep.
Why not simply reseal/varnish and re-enjoy the wooden furniture you bought originally?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
If I was to varnish it how far do I need to sand it back, just as with 6 chairs I really don't fancy sanding them all completely back0

Well there's the rub, excuse the pun.
A personal view, an hour per chair will give visible results, painting a suite like this is giving in, without offence, you could go to the car boot and get better any Sunday morning,
Reclaim it for about a tenner, :money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Carboot isn't really do able as the only one near us is over the other side of town about 6 miles away and we both dont drive so have no way to get it back, we have the same problem with eBay0
