Capital One PPI Employment Status letter

Hello,
Wonder if anybody can offer some advice. I have an old Capital One account opened in 2001 when I was in University.
I received a letter from C1 yesterday as follows:
"Dear Mr LRL
We regularly review our customer' accounts to make sure our information is accurate and up to date. You used to have Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) with your credit card account. Although this PPI cover was cancelled, we need to confirm the following detail with you:
Your employment status when you took out the cover in July 2001
Please complete the slip blah blah blah"
At this point I should state that I have not filed a PPI claim against C1, this letter has come out of the blue.
Are C1 trying to cover themselves against a future claim? Just wondering if anyone else has received something similar.

If the failing is concerned with employment status at the time of taking the insurance (as seems likely) then it's in your interests to return the reply slip. If you fit the criteria, then you'll get a subsequent letter telling you that you can complain of mis-selling.
In the meantime, why not investigate whether it's worth complaining now? How long before cancelling did you pay for PPI?0 -
