Nemaslug - any success?
I am considering treating my allotment with Nemaslug to try and gain the upper hand. Has any one used it? Late night forays armed with a bucket are out of the question as it the plot is a bit too isolated. Last season was a bit demoralising, so I'd like to reduce the number of slugs, even if I can't get rid off them all. I'm organic and the wild life there is fantastic, so I wouldn't use pellets. I have a small pond am hoping to introduce some frogspawn, which I'm sure will help. The Nemaslug is expensive, so I'd like to know if it has worked, or not, for others. Thanks.

this has been mentioned on this board somewhere, worth doing a search..slugs.
I have used Nemaslug but only with trying other things, (big blitz a few years ago against the little sods!)
eg beer traps...worked really well. It doesn't work with snails, only slugs, wait until the soil has warmed up a bit,
I was advised by my local garden centre to store it in my fridge until used.
I did notice a drop in numbers but it is expensive to use.
Good luck0 -
i try and get the birds in to pick the slugs off so lots of feeders and nesting boxes, protect veg/fruit with netting. beer traps are great too. dont know how others feel about this, but i salt any slugs and snails i see, scrape them up and bin them. my mil has a frog pond and rarely sees slugs/snails in her garden, but im scared of frogs and toads so couldnt do this! copper stops them, i use copper piping on bases of canes, and copper cellotape around pot rims. grr slugs n snails.0

Growing success have recently launched an organic slug pellet which you may find of interest instead of or in addition to the nematodes.....

I have found it to have good success in my garden so far..... £3.99 for a big tub...0 -
I used Nemaslug and it was brilliant, also used the one for Leatherjackets and the number of Daddy Longlegs we had the year after dropped by a huuuuuuge amount. So easy to use too, just water it on0

I've also used Nemaslug and found it great - I actually found it worked out cheaper than slug pellets too, as I only needed to use it twice in one year (once in April and once in September) to greatly reduce the slug populaton. I also prefer it because it doesn't put chemicals on the garden.
I tried the vine weevil one too (think it's called Nemasys?), but that was less useful - mainly because I couldn't tell if it had worked or not, so spent all Summer worrying about vine weevils in containers. I gave up after that and went back to using Provedo, as then at least I know my pots are okay for 6 months!0 -
Thanks everyone. I'll definitely try the Nemaslug to get the little ones in the soil that enjoy my potatoes so much, and I may give the organic slug pellets a go around the strawberry patch later on. I had considered not bothering with potatoes this year, but I'm feeling much more inspired after all your feedback. Thanks again0
