YouView gives you the on-demand programmes integrated into the Freeview EPG. That's it.
You can get YouView without taking a sub with TT-you just buy the Humax box.
A bit simplistic.
It's Freeview HD
+ a recorder
+ catch up tv (integrated into a backwards EPG)
+ various other IPTV services (free and subscription) that are not integrated into the EPG but available via a portal page in Youview or by searching by Genre.
+ linear Pay TV packages from ISPs (already available for Talk Talk, coming soon on BT)
Examples of services that are not Catch-up TV but on Youview include Now TV, and BT Vision / Talk Talk TV (on available if you are a customer of those respective ISPs).0 -

Agreed.
So if you want a Freeview HD PVR, a YouView box will now cost you either £250 at retail, £49 from BT, or free with TalkTalk.
And those other IPTV services Colin refers to above are actually tens of thousands of free on demand programmes and content that are free too. So whats not to like? And its a no-brainer if you ask me.0 -
I dont know if this helps but I have been having the same issue (youview or freeview) and found this:

Hope it helps0 -
well looks like I'm stuck with virgin for another 10 months anyway.. as somewhere in the small print it is said that when you're moving the property they starting (refreshing) your contract for the full duration under the same condition you signed it at your first place.. so it's either leave them and pay 180 quid now and save a bit a month going with cheaper broadband and free tv (I don't use landline anyway so want to get rid of it) so thanks for all the advice... I was going to go for that youview as it seems logical...0

On the Humax website they have "Grade A Managers Specials" at somewhat reduced prices - eg. £159 for a Humax DTR-T1000/500GB-G
See http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/prodCat.asp?cat=factory0 -
Don't know if I ever came back to this thread but I went for youview and have been happy with this. Have saved a fortune since ditching sky. I use the catch up services on youview all the time. Also use lovefilm and Netflix through the wii box, would be nice if youview got around to adding these but still very happy0
