No, the Humax T2 is just a standard Freeview HD PVR.

I'm not sure of the point that you are trying to make, if you want the HUMAX above buy it, but you won't be able to connect to YouView.

Found a review of the HUMAX DTR 1000 here.

YouView was a brilliant idea, but the consortium has faffed about for so long that its exclusive market window has all but closed before launch. A year ago, I'd have happily paid £299 for this.

Youview is just a FreeviewHD PVR, plus a standardised IPTV platform, ie downloading programmes through your internet connection as well as watching and recording broadcast TV. If you like the idea of stuffing iPlayer, ITVPlayer, Sky NowTV etc into your set top box, this is for you.
For £300 though, it's really pricey for starters.

That's kind of defensive, am not trying to offend anyone

I am genuinely tring to make an informed choice between freeview and youview

I have been told about a set top box that potentially does what i am after but on posting here am told it doesn't do Internet(macman) hence posting specs. I'm not trying to make any point, just trying to understand the difference between the services given there is a cost difference so that I make the right choice for me. I genuinely do not know which way to go so am evaluating the options and seeking opinions.

So as I see it youview is freeview with Internet catchup tv and a sky paytoview option, with the potential for as yet undisclosed extra providers to come on board soon. This costs £299 for set top box, not sure of storage on the box yet

There is the option of the box above, which is freeview hd, same ability to pause/rewind/record etc. same choice in programmes as there are no different aerial programmes. The website and some reviewers report catchup tv is available through the internet on the set top box, need to confirm which catch up services this can access. Again with as yet undisclosed services to come on board in due course. This box on amazon is about £250 for a 1Tb hard drive.

Someone else mentioned a google tv made by Sony but think that may be muddying the waters and sounds like would still need a set top box to record to

    Decisions decisions

So now thinking about if we could manage without sky entirely, will miss sky one if we do but could use lovefilm or Netflix to catch watch these programmes later maybe.

Just be aware that you'll need to be patient, especially if you're talking about the on-demand version of Lovefilm, not the DVD one. Even Netflix seems to be slower than DVD releases for new seasons of TV shows in the UK.

If you don't want to pay a monthly sub, Blinkbox offers PAYG. You pay for what you watch only.

    Hi.
I'm just about to leave virgin as they charge me over 40 quid now and I'm using just broadband and TV few hours a week...
was thinking about going for broadband with talk talk anyway...
is there anything i should consider when picking between freeview and youview now?
I know I missed it as it looks like talk talk just ending a promotional offer with free youview box.. but then again.. it most likely will come back on the offer don't you think? is it worth waiting or just go for freeview as there isn o difference?

YouView gives you the on-demand programmes integrated into the Freeview EPG. That's it.
You can get YouView without taking a sub with TT-you just buy the Humax box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
