I'm basing the idea they would remain close to St Pancras from the way they tend to conduct business. It is actually quite common for them to send workers to a mid/late-morning meeting in Brussels after having already conducted an early (and I mean early!) morning meeting in London and still expect them back for another late afternoon meeting in London. Logistically, they can only maintain these levels of insanity by remaining in relatively close proximity to St Pancras. I doubt they'd wish to risk exposing themselves to more traffic and/or delays in public transport than is necessary.

That said, looking on the map, possibly they might consider moving into the City and setting up somewhere around Charing Cross but I couldn't really see them wanting to move further south than the area around the Russell Square tube station. Due to the nature of our work they're not fond of employees on business using the tube as it is.

Still, I could be horribly wrong. My position in the company is only high enough whereby I'm informed of these things once they're in the R&D stage and not before.
This is a fairly 'standard' schedule for international workers in the city and aiui even docklands. Certainly one dh would be familiar with from the city.

Edit...a few years ago the 'NYLon' lifestyle was stupidly en vogue, For a while my fil was weekly commuting nw london, zone two to nyc weekly. There is a contogent of london workers and occupqnts who use planes like buses, and the filtering impact onto those of us wanting a more normal life at the same level of work is mot insignoficant. In an international remit you will find, on moving there, this is not an uncommon schedule in this 'pace' of life at all.

Fair enough. I was thinking though if they don't want their workers on the tube (with good reason) then relying on buses and traffic to constantly go their way could cost them dearly.

I'm intrigued, I can't think of a single reason why an employer would not wish their employees to use the tube. Can an employer dictate what mode of transport is used by staff to get to and from work? Seems very odd.

Sorry to sound dim, but why don't they want their workers on the tube? It's the most efficent way of getting around.

You can use the tube to get to and from work. You are not supposed to use the tube, except in some circumstances, while working, or rather while traveling between meetings. The simple reason is that we move a lot of sensitive information, encrypted of course, but the high levels of pickpocketing and theft on the tube make it an undesirable means of transport whilst carrying said information.

Although every employee who is in possession of such data is trained on how to carry that information and ensure its security, the prospect of being sued into oblivion should any information somehow be lost is something that keeps the company on its toes and so there are very detailed guidelines on the management and transport of company and client data that employees are supposed to follow.

I do believe most sensitive data that has been lost been left in the back of taxis ;)

Nah, that's just ill-trained government employees that don't have to worry about being sued in the way that we do and for some reason are allowed to keep their jobs.

We don't leave data in the back of taxis because we know what we're doing - and anyone who did that would be dismissed sharpish! :D

Really though it is just a case of better safe than sorry and the company feels that they need these guidelines on how to handle and transport their information.

That's because Braintree and Colchester aren't very nice areas. That's the same in all counties surely? The rougher areas have cheaper housing.

Braintree and Colchester are cheaper than Chelmsford because the commute to London is longer, not because they are rougher.

I second this. The Javelin in to St.Pancras from Ebbsfleet it an excellent service and you have the advantage of being on the Eurostar line too.

There are some very nice areas between Ebbsfleet and Maidstone.

We went on the Eurostar in June and we were told when we got off (by a worker) that they're actually considering closing Ebbsfleet or Ashford and they were probably going to decide after the Olympics.

As for Essex, pick your area carefully. I live in a town in Essex and hopefully my husband's job is relocating and we're going to be able to escape. I've lived here for 34 years and they're doing so much building I don't think it'll be long before certain areas become London.

Chelmsford and Epping yes, but Harlow? A nice area?

OP, it also depends where in London they're planning on moving to. It's no good moving to the east to say Chelmsford if they're off to the west. Equally, St.Albans is fine, but if they decide on say Canary Wharf you've then got to add on the extra time travelling from Euston to there. You could end up adding another hour to your commute if you choose the wrong side.

They really need to give you some indication of where in London they may move to before you can narrow it down, just 'London' is too vague.

Yes a lot of Harlow is gorgeous, Church Langley, Summners, Grey Goose Park, Fir Trees, ST Johns, most of Old Harlow, Newhall & The Maples and that's straight off the top of my head...
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...
