Asus Tablets

Options
I've been humming and harring over the past 6 months or so, about which tablet to get, and have been saving my £2 coins to treat myself to something good. Now that this savings pot has reached £500+, I have been eyeing up the Asus Transformer Prime.

However, I wanted some views on whetheror not it is worth paying the extra for the Prime or to go with the cheaper TF300 model.

I'll be using it for the usual stuff, music, films, internet, occasional documents.

I'd really appreciate anyones views.

I bought the original Transformer when it fist came out and it's been one of my best and most used tech purchases I've made in 30-40 years. If I was buying today, I'd buy the TF300. The spec is much the same (slightly slower clock speed and lower spec' but same resolution screen), with the main difference being build quality and materials. IMO, you won't go wrong purchasing either. You just need to reconcile what the extra £100 buys you and is it worth £100 to you?

Google have just released their Nexus tablet, it is made by ASUS and powered by the same tegra 3 CPU, it is only a 7 inch screen though so if you want a bigger screen it's DOA, http://www.google.co.uk/nexus/#/7

It looks like the transformer infnity, which is the succesor to the prime, will be ouI in August. Might be worth waiting to see is this means a reduction in price for the prime.

The problem with waiting is that things always get cheaper and better! imo the best approach is to list the things you want and the price you are prepared to pay. As soon as a device comes available at a price you can afford then go for it.

The Nexus 7 seems to tick my boxes lol :)

Hope you are happy with your choice.

    Thanks. You're right about waiting.

The Nexus does sound like a good choice but then so does the new transformer model.

I have a fair amount in my £2 coin savings, my budget is around the £550 mark, so I may splash out and treat myself if the new asus is in that range.

I'd been watching this too, £199 from Google for the 16GB version, as against $249 in the US which works out at about £160, the same price as the 8GB version over here. I've noticed this with other products from the US and EU, if proof were needed we're being taken for a ride in this country you don't have to look far.

For what it's worth (Google tablet vs. Transformer), whilst the tablet capability is very useful, particularly the touch-screen, I find I use the Transformer more with the keyboard than without (probably about 70/30). Also, the Transformer provides capablities that the Google doesn't - most notably the SD and uSD ports, but also higher screen resolution and size.

If you remove the 20% sales tax, the UK price for the 16GB (like for like) is £166.

I would go for TF300. I don't see prime worth the extra money IMO
