Item "Stolen" during delivery

Hi all, i was wondering if anyone could offer some advice, my mother has recently purchased an item of furniture of ebay, she then arranged a collection through 'Shiply' with a courier driver, who duly went to collect the item and arranged for delivery on the wednesday, had a phone call then stating the the van had broken down and that delivery would be re-attempted on the saterday, unfonrtunatly there has been no contact at all from the courier and no replies to phone calls and messages left on mobile, we have no company name just the guys name and mobile number, i was just wondering where she stood on claiming, payment for the goods was made through paypal, but delivery was going to be made by cash on delivery.

I was just wondering if she was still able to make a claim for the cost of the goods through paypal. or could she persue the matter through Shiply as it was one of their recommended couriers.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks..

Unfortunately for the seller your mother will al out certainly be able to reclaim the money via PayPal. I say unfortunately for the seller as it will be them who suffer all the loss purely because they did your mother a favour and allowed her to use her own courier.

The seller will have no way at all of reclaiming their money.

Personally I would chase the courier for the money, I would not peruse the innocent seller.

Report the courier to the police for theft and also to Shiply, who presumably have some sort of procedure for dodgy couriers.

I certainly hope your mother wouldn't be so dishonest as to claim her money back from paypal. It is hardly the sellers fault the courier hired by your mother hasn't delivered the item.

Yep, seller has left themselves at risk by accepting PP but with no online means to prove delivery. If the courier left any kind of paperwork, I suppose they could contest an INR from having proof of delivery to the buyers 'agent'.
