Hi everyone, I need some advice please. I would like to offer Free wifi at my shop. I have read that there are routers that enable you to create to wlan's. Is this the best way to go? Obviously I would like to make my network secure but on the customers side of things, maybe a timeout after half an hour/one hour or just turning off when the shop is closed. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a Fritz Box 7390, which allows you to create a guest wlan which does not have access to your main network.
It's a bit spendy and may be overkill for what you want but it works wellWhat goes around - comes around0 -

No
For example Apples Airport Express does two networks, one private and a guest network.
The other option is to use two routers (and different subnets) but you may not me technically inclined to do so.0 -
I've the older model (2820) and the wifi version lets you isolate WiFi from the rest of your network.
It would also let you use open DNS to control (to a degree) what sites are accessed and it has other measures to control users.
The configuration isn't simple but this is mostly because there are many options.
A better, potentially cheaper, but more time consuming solution might be to get a router with custom firmware, for example http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/wireless.hotspot.nodogsplash0 -

A half-decent router like the D-Link DIR-655 offers a 'Guest' zone which can be switched on and off to pre-defined schedule.
You could set it needing a key which is displayed inside the shop to thwart most free-loaders.0
