Wood block floor

Hi...not sure whether anyone can help. but had a quote of £3k to put down reclaimed wood blocks, so decided to do it ourselves to save money.
Whilst I get the basics, has anyone any tips that would save us from mistakes, advice on the different adhesives out there (some really really expensive expensive!) etc
Already have the blocks which are in good condition, but need advice if poss. One website I checked out said never ever contepmlate doing this unless you're an expert

not done it myself but as i understand it you are best to lay a flat base using something like plywood to prevent the floor boards flexing and level them out. it also increases the mass and hence soundproofing which is a nice bonus0

Yep, going onto concrete screed so no problem with that. Its just the rest I'm worried about!Mark Hughes' blue and white army0

Beside the type of adhesive there are a few things to think about ..how much residue is left of the old adhesive as there could be a reaction between it and the new .
What pattern are you going to use ie herringbone. stretcher etc as you need to work out where to start .
The blocks should be stored in the room where they are going to be laid for a few days.

Thanks...there's a slight covering of bitumen left which we'll try and scrape off. Someone did say that Lecol absorbs this and 'sucks the block in'. But its this type of stuff I'm not sure about. The adhesives are all fairly pricey and I don't want to get the wrong one.
Probably will do a double herringbone, and I think you're supposed to start from the middle and work out.
Thanks all for your help. Not many responses, so I presume most people fork out for someone else to do it and save the hassles!Mark Hughes' blue and white army0
