RAC nightmare 4 hour wait + trapped in car

I drove down the M1 on Friday afternoon, certainly plenty of rain and very slow traffic. The traffic around Nottingham and Derby was very heavy
I did a round trip from London to up 't north of 450 miles and saw dozens of recovery trucks and broken down vehicles.
The weather was very bad and being a Friday there is extra traffic.
I think you will have found most breakdown companies were far busier than normal on Friday.0 -
A typical breakdown firm will have one van covering an area of around 250 square miles at any point in time.
Throw in a bit of bad weather and an hour for each breakdown and you could start to struggle. Overlay severe weather and expect to wait a fair old time.
Other than paying premiums my experience of RAC is excellent. One breakdown, 8 hours after becoming a member, and they attended 25 minutes later. The bloke knew his stuff too.0 -

I managed to get my van sorted out by them without being a member through sheer random luck. Guy would not accept a drink even when I insisted.0 -
This is my second year with the RAC, called them out 3 times last year. Took just over an hour twice and 2 hours once.
Service was excellent with 1 recovery, 1 charge and follow home and 1 tow home.0
