HI
We had a leak from the water tank in the loft to the bedroom. It water stained the ceiling and the top of the wall. We've put stain block on it from Screw Fix.
The ceiling is no problem, its white and needed re painting anyway. The problem is the wall.
I was really pleased with myself as I kept the colour chart and noted what colour we used. The only problem is that its a Focus DIY paint and they've now gone out of business.
Does anyone know where I might be able to find a small tin of focus paint? Did anyone buy the stock?
Failing that, it will be a "feature" wall in a matching paint.
The paint is called Dewberry from their one coat World of Colour brochure

Some shops, (Brewers had one in 2003 that I used) , have a paint matching service that might help.
You might be able to get paint for one wall that won't be noticeably different to the other three walls. although those walls may have faded or gone darker over time. The colour swatch may not even be a close enough match to what is on the wall so it will all be a bit hit and miss.0 -

If Brewers can't match it feature wall it is.

Most independent decorators merchants have a colour matching service and normally use dulux or Crown / Macpherson paints. Remember that even if you get the paint there will be. Colour variation due to fading, dirt etc.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Frankly, even two cans of allegedly identical paint bought on the same day from the same shop often aren't a perfect match - which is why when you paint a room needing more than one can you should always mix them together well before you start.
Anyway, you can colour match with dulux paints at many shops, but keep in mind it's an approximation and that it's colour match and not finish match, so the sheen and texture may vary.
However, there is a way to get around this that tends to work fairly well. Get the best match you can on colour and finish, then paint the whole affected wall up to the edges. Where surfaces change direction, they tend to appear visually slightly different in colour and texture anyway, allowing for the repainted area to not stand out so much as it would if you just painted a patch. Internal corners tend to be more forgiving than external corners for this, so ideally repaint between two internal corners.
Edit because I forgot to mention, spare paint can often be stored long term which may help you in the future when decorating. The cans rarely seal air tight once opened, so put it in a well washed and dried fizzy drink bottle (because of their intended use they're very air tight usually) and put the lid on firmly. Then store it somewhere that doesn't experience extremes of temperature, so no sheds, garages or lofts, but a cupboard somewhere in the house is probably ok. I've found paint to be usable many years later having stored it this way in the past.0 -

If you turn the can upside down after replacing the lid it helps to seal the lid.
Johnstones may be able to match the paint, but as you are painting the ceiling and one wall, surely painting the other walls would be easy enough.0 -

One of the other problems with cans is they usually have large volumes of air inside them which encourages the paint to dry out. However, the plastic bottles are smaller and they do also allow you to squeeze them before tightening up the cap to remove the air.0 -
thanks for all your responses. We will look at colour matching but like you say, its probably easier to do a feature wall or repaint all four. Having said that, it took my OH 8 years to paint it this colour and only then as we thought we were putting the house on the market lol!The Cabbage
