I thought you could work, and declare your earnings? That enables people to do some casual work, for example.WantToBeSE wrote: »my concern is that i cant start earning money until i actually sign off from JSA...but i cant sign off from JSA until i start earning money, or i'll run the risk of actually HAVING no money!
It takes a while to sort out and it messes up claims for HB big time, but I thought you could do this.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You will also need business insurance for your car.
Sign up for a free VoIP phone number with a local area code, as it looks more reputable than just using a mobile number, and avoids disclosing your home phone number. You get the voicemails emailed to youA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Thanks everyone for the advice. I think my 1st step will to chat things over with the careers adviser. I have an appointment next week, so will raise my concerns with him/her.
The best advice that my JC adviser could give was to stay on benefits for 6 months and that i could get a loan and financial help after those 6 months, but i really dont want to stay on benefits for that long! I have already been on benefits for almost 2 months!0 -
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place but I am wondering if there are any grants available to start up a new business for the over 50's. I am looking to get in the region of £2000 to start my business, which would include some recycling of materials. The money would be used to buy materials and some training and possible adapting a room. I prefer not to use a loan as I dont want to be saddled with an immediate debt0

Sorry to drag up this thread from a few months ago, but i thought i'd add what i have done/researched first, and get any advice i could.
So, i have worked out that i will be registering as a sole trader, not a company.
I have also signed up to 'Outset' which gives free workshops for help and advice about starting your own business. I have, through researching, found out about the New Enterprise Allowance, which i will discuss when i go and sign on on Tuesday.
My main problem will be at the start of setting up, when i will still be getting JSA, but earning a few £s. It will seriously muck up my HB and CTC. Does anyone have a way around this??0
