    Hi brewerdave
Are you using google chrome by any chance?
I've encountered several problems trying to log onto secure sites via chrome in recent months and have several accounts/cards that I can only access through explorer because the log-ins just seem to freeze on chrome.
(Don't know if this helps or not!)

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm actually using a fully updated version of FIREFOX 14.0.1 - still won't proceed beyond user name screen BUT I can log in using Chrome!!:T

I have no issue logging in to Tesco Credit Card.

As for the other issue of who should be tracking outstanding balances, it is up to the customer to track their balances. It is true that there are computers to do these things, but not all transactions are immediately cleared, so it can't necessarily come of your balance if it's not cleared by the merchant.

It is the same thing with cheques - you can write out a cheque for any amount, but at the end of the day, it is up to you to keep track of your money and ensure that you don't spend more than what is in your account.

I don't really understand why you want to blame the bank, when you spent more money than what was available to you.
  • I have now had a reply from Tesco to my complaint. They say
I can confirm that recently we have changed our banking details. I apologise that you didn't receive any notification that this change was going to occur and I acknowledge that you have been inconvenienced as a result. However the banking details are shown on the reverse of your statement.
They go on to "refund the late fee and interest". Gee whiz! As far as I am concerned, I paid off the bill on 11 June when the Faster Payments system recorded that the Royal Bank of Scotland Tesco Clubcard Mastercard Collection Account had received my money. I consider that it's up to Tesco Personal Finance plc and its bankers what happens after that. If the bankers decide to send the money back to me that creates a new debt by me to the bankers.

Anyway, I consider that there is an important principle at stake here, especially now that internet banking is widespread. It concerns where the responsibility lies when an organisation changes its bank account and the actions which it needs to take to notify those who pay it using internet banking.

In pre-internet days it really didn't matter if an organisation changed its bank account. You continued to write a cheque to the same organisation and hand the cheque over the bank counter together with the paying-in slip. Your actions didn't change when the bank account number at the bottom of the paying-in slip changed.

Now you set up the details of the payee's account in your internet bank account once and thereafter pull up those details and specify only the amount which you are paying and the date. If the payee's details change, you need to revise them in your internet bank account.

I have written back to Tesco asking them whether they are actually holding me at fault for not having noticed that they had changed their bank details and whether they consider that payment into one of their bank accounts does not suffice to settle a debt to them.

Maybe they would, but such a payment followed by that money being returned to your account wouldn't suffice.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Hello everyone !!! I have now had a reaction about the cash score to my financial institution account: it came from Elegant Bank of Scotland with the thoughts return credit card. So I think it's obvious that RBS obtained my transaction to the consideration which they run for Tesco MasterCard and then made the decision to deliver the refund...

Thank you for your views gents / ladies (??).

Extraordinary, I don't keep constant track of balances myself, credit or debit, on other accounts (CC, current, savings etc etc etc..) and find the banks/building societies quite capable of refusing transactions that exceed limits defined & agreed.. Indeed I've been the beneficiary when fraudsters have (more than once) tried various nefarious transactions and been surprised/grateful when the financial institution (including one CC ..) called me / emailed me..

Ho hum, I take it my views are in a minority (at least of this board...). So you guys know what your available credit is one any credit card at any time eh?? Blimey, I'm amazed... I expect them to tell me (you know, supplier, customer relationship.. customer-iz-always-rite...). What else do those computers do all day ??

    Cheers!!!

I am gobsmacked! You shouldn't have a credit card if you can't keep track of what you're spending on it! Credit card transactions can take 48 hours to appear on any statement (sometimes longer) so it is YOUR responsibility to know what you've spent on your card.

Oh, and yes.....I always know what my balance is so I know what I have to pay off. My statements are for information..... and yes, I always check them!
