Should be next day? but it's not guaranteed...
I have had no losses recently touch wood - I post around 50 items per week.
One lady sent me a cheque by 1st class recorded delivery on Thursday and it arrived the following Tuesday so the system is not infallible!

1st class can take a week or so as it is not a guaranteed service. Try asking at your local sorting office if they have a parcel for you and have forgotten to card you.

Post seems pretty bad at the moment, slow and lost parcels seem to be higher than ever.

i have sent the seller a couple of messages but have not had any back so is it a bit to early to do anything?

the seller gave me a tracking number from RM but all it says is that its in there network but i just have a funny feeling about this.

so is it too early to worry?

if you've got a tracking number why the funny feeling?

Does the RM site show the date they got it in their system?

It's not too early to worry as you already are doing;)
Presumably recorded delivery? You could email or tweet Royal Mail and ask where it is. No recourse to the seller at this point.

on the RM website it just says it was sent from such and such post office on The 3rd July and thats its being progressed through our network for delivery.

It sounds like a recorded item, which as RM says is not tracked.
