DD is in an Army house, she's been given 6 months to move and has also been told not to worry if that is not achievable.

Temperatures are looking considerably colder where I am at the end of the week. Just in time for the clocks going back. It's here, Autumn-Winter is well upon us.
Mince and dumplings for us tomorrow.
Loving the idea of Mary's to make a pie pastry around a jam jar, fill it with hot water so the lard melts slightly and pops off.I fancy giving a mini pie a go.
What filling though? hmm mince and onionWe may not have mince and dumplings after all :rotfl: See how I get on tomorrow, got the harvest festival (we're donating to the food bank, I'm donating a fair bit from my stocks. Nice feeling)
I'm waffling, sorry0 -
We had mince and dumplings tonight Fuddle (well kind of, i discovered half was meatballs after they defrosted). The cut up meatballs turned out to be DD's favourite bit.
Where can I buy popping corn? I don't think I've ever seen it in Mr T. The numbers for my Halloween party seem to be growing and I was planning my treat bags to be popcorn filled in disposable gloves with something in the fingertips for nails. I figure they'll have more than enought sweets as we will take them trick or treating to select houses (to kill some time!).0 -
The popping corn in my Tesco is in the Asian groceries isle. East End I think the name is. I only found it by mistake as DH wanted to buy tumeric in bulk for his fishing bait (I know I thought him a bit of a pillock too) HTH P0

Tesco's must be worried about Aldi's coming because they have now really increaseded the floor space given over to meat products...and are selling items they have never ever had before like lamb neck fillets.
But the cheapest were £3.58 for two. I could get 4 meals out them but they were not much cheaper than buying chops or diced lamb...even though they had been reduced by approx £1.30 on their normal price...
Aldi's have put an official sign up saying that they are opening on November 8th:)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

You will also probably find it in the wholefood section as well, it's just dried corn kernels.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Interested in all thsi talk about landlords and things. I have been toying with the idea of sinking what is left of my father's inheritance into a cheap (VERY cheap) one bedroom flat and letting it to someone on benefits cheaply.
I don't know much about it, other than there have been some interesting articles in the Guardian (which of course I can't find now!) but there seem to be quite a few schemes which seem safe, provide loans to charities or other "good causes" and give a rate of interest which can be as good (if you can call it good) as the rates in banks. Sorry if this isn't appropriate.
Have thoroughly enjoyed the bake-off: though I can't see me every making an 8 plait loaf somehow! And now it's time for bed with a hot water bottle and a glass of milk (don't tell me I don't know how to live!)
Good night all.0 -

In fact, I still have some in the cupboard, must give it another go.
Heads-up re popping corn. I added a single layer over the base if a large deep pan and watched it pop thru the glass lid (great fun!) but it kept growing and growing and filled this very deep pan. A little seems to go a very long way.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Larger repairs may be done although as we know with Fuddle, it doesn't always happen, and some repairs are botched jobs. The outside of my house has bits falling off and needs specialist builders, but it's been done just to make do, and not ideal at all for the type of building it is.
Having lived in rented most of my childhood and then having bought my own home, I would choose buying over renting (even with HB), any day of the week. At least when you make sacrifices you know it's for the long term good. All the sacrificing in the world doesn't give me that with renting. I hate it. And I feel like crying now. Sorry.

Certainly on some DIY programme I saw once, an air brick was covered with a bank of soil outside - once that was removed the damp problem was solved.
Yes, that's what I thought. Rather worrying about the LL's lack of knowledge whilst trying to casually maintain the house! The popping corn in my Tesco is in the Asian groceries isle. LOL, my dad gets tins of sweetcorn as fishing bait - when we're camping with my parents, the kids get excited when they see tinned sweetcorn (poor deprived children only get frozen or fresh at home :rotfl: ) then grandad says 'No! That's for my fish.'
DS2 has antibiotics... Had the chance to speak to doc about how we're waiting for ASD diagnosis while DS was out in the loo producing a sample for checking for diabetes (all clear), so they have it on their records now that we're still just waiting...
I've had to put 2 loads of washing through the dryer tonight as the weather is just so damp here. I need to get a dehumidifier as the washing was disgustingly sour smelling after 'drying' on the clothes horse the other day. Even after I've washed it again twice, my work fleece still smells yuck.0 -
OK I shall stalk the Mr T aisles on the lookout for it. I think I checked whole foods but I never would have thought of the ethnic food aisle. I've found some fantastic marshmallow-y halloween-y recipes (on Pinterest surprisingly enough) that I'm dying to try.
GQ I have two big stockpots so they will be the popping stations!0
