You know how we're not mean to cry over spilt milk? Is it ok to cry over spilt chicken stock :wall: It was all over the bench, cupboard fronts and floor _pale_ Thankfully the dog likes chicken stock has gotten rid of the grease off the floor, now all is left is a dettol attack. :D

Made HM rice pud for the kids, I've added some dessicated coconut and it is going down well. I've also added some omega 3 but don't tell them ;)

Off for a bit knitting. Leg warmers are done :D Will photo for you tomorrow and now using some yarn on handwarmers. :)

Have been lurking for ages- couldn't keep up with the old thread and it's taken days to catch up on this one. So sorry to hear of poster's problems with housing etc etc.

It seems as though things are going to get rather savage and whilst being as prepared as possible is sensible, it does seem better for one's emotional and mental health to be mindful i.e to live as much in the moment as possible. I remember the importance of that from 5 years ago when my late brother was dying with cancer. That way we made as much as we could of the time that was left. There's simply no way we can cover all possible bases living in an urban setting. We can only do the best we can.

    Roseanna79,
Thank you for that and it is true. I try to live in the day and listen to as little as possible of the news. Just I have to stay informed about the changes to benefits etc...I don't want to as it's all bad but...

Having lost both my parents now to cancer and seeing how Mum spent the last year or so, it's even more true. Mum was doing reasonably well, without repeating myself, we had more trouble with the so called professionals that were forced on us...that makes me sad...

Well still not got out of bed yet but reading and had to post to send my love to Shropshire lass - poppy of course is unreplaceable.....we still miss our beloved Judy who is buried in the back garden who passed nearly 6 years go now ( age 17). I might have my other 3 but they are not her each is like a child totally individual.

9 months after our youngest daughter died my sister has a baby and every one in the family were worried how I would feel, but other baby's were other baby's all separate people to be loved, my youngest son bought two years later was not a replacement for his sister and to me its the same with our dogs.

So sending you my love and just remember you loved her and she knew it, you gave her the best life a dog could have and were there for her, loving her right up till the end, what more could a dog or even a person want........

My lot are snuggled up asleep beside me as normal, waking up for cuddles and tummy rubs when they want them, they like it I am on tap - just disappear to go out to garden or for a drink then back again.

Kitcat, sending you lots of good vibes to try and get you through next week, so much you have to go through. Any child would find it hard to deal with suddenly losing someone at school but I know how much harder it is for your son. Did hubby stay off to look after you and did he? How you don't have a breakdown with it all I will never know, you are stretched to the limit, but try and fit in some me time somewhere as you are not invincible - why this year you have been catching so many things, your body just cannot take the strain any more. My heart goes out to you.....

    Hugs, Love and healingxxxxxxxxxx

    Regarding the chicken stock:pbut also:mad:

Good one on the rice pudding and the hidden omega3(I have some tins of it)but some of those rice pots to use up and soon...

Handwarmers...must remember to buy some gloves and a hat for Winter, just in case I go out...or to wear indoors if the CH is turned off. My auntie who lived to be 103 or was it 104 wore a thick coat and a hat in her home.

Aww Kidcat it sounds like you and your family are really going through the mill at the moment. I hope the school can let you have some information - they have a duty to support all the children in their care, especially at a time like this. A child in my big DD's year at primary school died suddenly a couple of years ago and the school had plenty of advice and guidance from the LA about helping the children come to terms with what had happened. In your DS's case it's especially important for them to give enough support to help him to cope with it all.

Fuddle - I'm not surprised you feel like crying, what a nightmare having stock all over the place and what a waste of yummy HM stock as well . On the bright side - thanks for the tip about coconut in the rice pud, I bet that's delicious!

    (((Hugs))) to all in need.

I'll be wearing a hat indoors when I'm on my own this year popsThe heating will not go on till 3pm on really cold days and 5pm if it's not too bad. That is out of my hands but when I'm on my own I can really save the pennies.

So sorry I've hardly commented on posts to offer my support tonight. I've kind of quick read and missed loads of what has happened. Really sorry that many of us are dealing with sadness :(

    Welcome Roseanna :)

It's fine, we're there for each other, it's a pity that we have so much to deal with that is unhappy...when most of us are not asking for a lot.

Hope I can keep the internet and phone going when things get really difficult.

Someone said use the one at the library(yes if it's free and you don't have to pay for a taxi...)If you have to do that for the same price(allowing for the PC needing repairing)it's still cheaper to have one in the home. And you have 24/7 access...not just one or two hours...

Kittie, have I remembered correctly that you're also growing Kestrel potatoes this year? Have you noticed anything unusual about them, beyond the white rings? I've never dehydrated tatties but sometimes you get a glassy whiteness to the flesh when cooked which wasn't visible when you sliced into them raw. I steam my tatties, always. They don't taste very pleasant when they've gone like that.

yes for the first time but so far it is charlotte that I have noticed the white marks on. We have only eaten kestrel twice last week and both baked. Kestrel look fine so far

I am preserving more broad beans later, ie putting them in a bag and into the freezer, I did that and blanched others last year and couldn`t tell the difference

Kidcat there was a death at my children's school last year too. Unfortunately it was one of my daughter's best friends and I don't want to go into details but it was under very tragic, horrible circumstances. The whole school community was in extreme shock as you can imagine and reporters didn't help. We were offered counselling (eventually) but the school didn't bring anyone in because they felt the children were managing - and I think they were. My DD mentions her now and again but seems OK about it.

aw kidcat sorry to hear about your sons friends dying. Its awful, i the school provide counselling for everyone.

shropshire lass ((hugs))) sorry hear about your pooch, i know how you feel, when ours lost its battle battle we were devastated, she was my little baby.

Fuddle i'm with you. Regarding the heating, when the boys are at school i have it on a time during the winter where if it drops below 12 degrees or so it clicks on. When the boys come home its comes on 2:30pm as the house takes ages to warm up and i put the temperature thingy up to 18 degrees. I also have i on a timer so it comes on (in the winter) between 5:30am and switches off at 8:30am.
My partner convinced me to do have the heating as old houses especially are susceptible to the cold and the pipes freezing.

Hi rosanna lovely seeing you back on the thread again :)

Well the mince mix i was supposed to cook yesterday is now on today. Took the boys to the mela, but they got bored so came back home. To be honest it wasn't the same atmosphere as it was in the park. It was packed though and a nightmare getting anywhere. I did end up wandering to a sport shop to buy two footballs for the lads, so that kept them happy.
The boys refused food so no curry for me, not a happy bunny. So have to find something for tea in the house.
