AWH bloody landlords!!
I'm looking for ideas on how to dye or whiten Ikea nets. We have them in the bedroom because I never close my curtains here, and from outside they look greyish. What could I use to whiten them or change the colour?
Well to tell you the truth is very har to whiten nets when theyve gone grey......Apart from a scoop of vanish warm water and nice bit of washing powder..........But watch what you spend on cleaning agents as they are all very expensive and sometimes they just dont whiten them:mad:, and it maybe cheaper to buy new nets........0 -
I got to dash, I just put a food price update on

Got some important news from horses mouth
Re paraffin heaters, they give out 10 pints of water as condensation per one gallon, so can make the walls run with damp. Calor heaters also give out masses of water vapour. Swings and roundabouts0 -
Welcome back WCS
Thanks Kittie
Some good news anyway. I've been invited out to an Italian's with my 40+ mammy friends on Friday night. Looking forward to it. It's meal, dessert and small glass of wine for £10. £3 share in taxi.0 -
I used to use Steradent tablets to whiten old nets in a bath full of water, put them in and leave overnight...I used cold water to soak them and it worked. It might be worth a try..“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Oh for f sakes! Checked my tenancy agreement as per popperwells suggestion and I'm not allowed portable gas heaters in the house.
Back to the drawing board.
I know they want to be safe but I think this is a step too far too...I was talking earlier about an oil filled radiator and whether they were economical to run(not as nice to look at without the flame)and 2Tonsils gave me some useful advice for which I am thankful, it could be a way to keep warm instead of putting the gas CH on...in my case by putting it in the bedroom down the side nearest where I am in bed...to get the benefit except as they say electric is more expensive it may still cost a fair bit?
But they do retain heat for ages after being switched off and they can run on a kind of thermostat system so are not constantly heating up...is that an option?
I'm glad you had not purchased the fire first and then found out...
Speaking of tenant regulations...I don't think I am allowed to have a pet either..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I can't open the door on my log burner!
I've never opened it since I've been here, I recall I tried once but it wouldn't move then but I thought I was just being a weakling, but as I've never used it, didn't try again.
It won't budge.What do I do now?
Well apart from telling the landlord.
edit, Would WD40 help?0 -

If it is part of the agreement I'd tell the LL but you know WD40 may help even if it still takes some shifting. It could have seized up in some way..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

WCS - welcome home
Fuddle - we used to use calor heaters at church a few years ago and then had to get rid, as they did cause alot of condensation which was damaging the windows.
Byatt - is it locked in some way? Maybe you need to twist the handle or something? Or it could simply have been painted shut, have a good investigate and see if you can establish if its the whole door or just a small part and work from there.
Mardatha - you can buy curtain whitener which I have used in past, sometimes it works others it doesnt, my favourite is to soak them in sterilising fluid in cold water overnight. If anything gets them white it will be that one. Have tried the denture tablets on them before but never been very convinced.0 -
Many livin properties allow pets but it maybe be an issue were you to move. Did you know about the mutual lets scheme too? You can swap properties with others in your area eg family wanting a bigger property could swap with those who want a smaller property. The decision to swap or not is completely up to you. Could well be worth you signing up for because there's a couple of one and two bed swap in the place you live on the front page.0
