Hi Smiley
I agree with what everyone has said. I have supported The Brooke in the past, it's a great charity, but you can't give what you haven't got. Good idea to email them to be taken off their mailing lists, you can say that you will support them when you can, but that you will not respond to their mailshots.:)
ETA: My brother does work for the British Legion. They run regular campaigns and obviously have the poppy appeal. They have millions in the bank but can't spend them for some reason to do with charity rules. I agree with Kate, the ones that really need help are the smaller charities without the high profiles.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
PAH, you are far from being a drama queen, don't even think it. If you are having to follow through on a decision made that takes a lot of strength and courage. However, don't think you are weak for not following through. I know how difficult it is. Just because you decide something it doesn't mean it suddenly becomes easy. Please PM or email me, or let it out here. Sometimes just having the support makes all the difference.

I'm in the "giving to and buying from" charity, camp. There's a local cat sanctuary shop so donations of stuff always goes there, I pop in everytime I'm in town too and if there's nothing I want to buy I pop a few pounds in the box. It's where I rehome my cats and kittens from and I see the good work they do with no advertising.
I really object to the companies that mail you pictures, pens, cards, coasters etc etc, stop wasting money and use it where it's required
We supported GOSH for a few years when we made any donations towards flowers/funerals etc as our youngest DD was given excellent treatment there. But I'm now trying to keep it more local and more personal to our current lifestyle."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
PAH - thank you for posting that you are OK, just wanted to say that and I'm thinking of you and hoping you find the strength to do whatever is right for you in your life. Please just drop us all a brief message when you can bring yourself to, you aren't being selfish at all, just a friend in need. Stay safe Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Yes and remember there are other weird things the charity shops might find useful. One day I took some stuff into the horse charity shop here in town, and she came out to the car to help me in, and there was a whole load of bubble wrap in the car, and she said "Oh what are you doing with that?" I said it was going to recycling and she asked if they could have it, as they e-bay stuff too. So now I save all my packing stuff for them.
One of our other local charity shops, has furniture and household stuff very cheap, but they are affiliated with one of the churches and do DIY jobs for people in need too. I asked them if they'd any use for some building materials we had left over from various projects, and they were delighted to be offered them.

pah I'm reading between the lines and think I have some idea what changes are afoot for you. You're an extremely selfless person, you always help us out, we're here if you need us and don't hestitate to post. It's not selfish at all. You're troubled, we can hopefully ease the burdon or at least you support you through the changes. I wish I could give you a hug... I bet we all would. Now that would be a sight, all the toughies having a hug, a cry and a sniffle. x0

Smiley - I dont even open them now, which I know makes me seem heartless but if I have money to donate I do it in a number of ways, anything else I cant do, so I avoid reading them
PAH - will try to call you tomorrow.
Its been a long day today, but have managed to get some stuff sorted, I even managed to get the two boxes from the top of the wardrobe emptied - these have lingered since the house move. Of course the space has been refilled again but at least its something.
Tomorrow we have to sort the car out, no idea whats wrong with it or how long it will take, my guess is that it will be days. That will mean OH having to either hire a car or accept lifts to work from my dad - at 4.30am. AM inclined to prefer the hire option, simply as I really cannot stand the idea of my dad having to get up that early. But its more money I could do without spending.
During the unpacking I have found five reels of camera film that need developing - does anywhere still do that?0 -
Boots still processes film or you can send it off to be done, have a google."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

PAH - do keep posting here, not selfish to have a moan, ask advice, have a fit of the screaming ab-dabs; you've often been a sympathetic ear for many here, I'm sure everyone will return that care with interest.
Re charity post, I'm afraid I bin it all unopened now as well, albeit with a heavy heart, all the stuff I get is close to my heart as well.
Think Max Spielman still does film processing, too.
