We participate in a local hedge hog rescue and now have a feeding station with movement sensor controlled video. We are getting to know our visitors. It is so easy to encourage hedgehogs into your garden by building a rough box and placing in it water (as important as food) and peanuts which have been crushed - all hedgehogs like these. They then begin to include your garden on their night trail and often cover 4 miles a night.
Our videos of hedgehogs are http://www.youtube.com/user/DaveHogsAndDogs
and our local rescue http://www.brackleyhogwatch.org/I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I had no idea hedgehogs covered such a long distance. No wonder he had disappeared, probably 2 miles up the road by then!0

SDG - Glad it went as well as could be expected.
Pooky - fingers crossed for your DD, that does sound positive - proof if proof were needed that getting out and doing something can give your CV a bit of something extra. I always put my profession from my teenage years down at the top of my work list (see user name for a gigantic clue!) so far it has always made me memorable!
Fuddle - don't feel guilty hon - you sound like you have a reasonable selection of meals to get you through to payday and it's hardly as if you sabotaged the blinking thing now is it? Just rough luck. I do however know how soul destroying it is to throw out good food but better safe than sorry.
The Cake - so glad catto seems to have rallied - long may it continue.
Monnagran - welcome to the world baby Mia and congrats to all involved.
Just cooked off some of those croissant in a tin (they were on a good offer!) to have for tea filled with smoked ham and cheese with chips and salad - not sure I'll get them again whatever the offer as they've not puffed up as much as would have liked but they may still taste really good. It's one of those really quick and easy meals that I save for days like today when I'm really jiggered. Been out for lunch and into town with my mum today and then off to hydro with DD and the pushchair with both of them in is really starting to get very heavy and hard work - seeing wheelchair services next week and am desperately crossing everything that they will be able to help with something that will be easier to manage. Not looking bright though as the old physio didn't think they did double special needs buggies so ma well have to be a voucher and looking for a grant to make up the difference with something privately. Keep your fingers crossed for me that they have something up their sleeves - I might just be in luck as both kids have the same condition.
Hope I've not missed anyone - hugs if I have.0 -
monnagran congrats!!

It's a well known law of the universe that things happen at the worst possible time.
So that's OK fuddle if that's the worst the Universe can throw at you?
We have ( in the garden not the house) rabbits, stoats, foxes, barn owls kestrels, sparrow hawks, bats and the very dangerous wrens.
Not to mention a whole host of birds, frogs and toads ( mice and rats) that are with us all year.
I feed what I can and ignore what I can ( you are safe if you are not in my house Mr mouse and sorry GQ snail and slug).
We have 2 very fat Hedgehogs and when they go to bed for winter their home of choice is under the grass cuttings compost heap over 5 foot high and it steams gently most cold mornings.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0 -

Oh, I am so jealous of your little wildlife sanctuary! In what ways are the wrens dangerous, my mind is boggling! I love wrens - possibly because they're small and stumpy, like me :rotfl:.
Congratulations to Monnogran (should that now be Duogran?), best get those knitting needles out and clicking!
Thecake, I am glad your cat has rallied, but you must be feeling emotionally drained at the moment. Animals superglue themselves to our hearts, don't they? Pooky, I hope your cat comes home soon xx.
SDG, your friend Carl sounds like he was a smashing bloke. Smashing blokes are fast-tracked to heaven so that they can make the angels laugh.
A very mixed day here. Took my bike for a service, expecting to pay, but they didn't charge me because they classed it as the free first service (bike was bought six months ago). I thought I had missed out on that. The staff are lovely there - Harry Hall's in Manchester, might as well give them a plug for good customer service, helpfulness and enthusiasm, there are more than enough businesses where staff are the complete opposite! So that was a nice surprise.
Unfortunately I had a bit of a snotty email from work. They had advertised some notetaking and some transcription, with four hours' worth of transcription being separate (someone else is already doing the actual notetaking hours). I knew I couldn't do the notetaking as I will already be working with a student at those times, so I asked for the transcription. What came back was a general (to everyone) email saying 'Please respond to ad below if you can do ALL the hours'. It wouldn't matter to the student who was typing the notes up! I'm feeling a bit tender now and worried that I have screwed my chances of picking up any extra work by annoying them somehow. I've felt before that for some reason they don't really like me, but I don't know what I've done - no-one has ever complained about me and I've never cheated and claimed for hours I haven't worked. I am looking for other work but it's difficult to find because of my health. Oh well, it could be worse, at least I have a job and I do enjoy the work.
Bruno mugged two police community support officers for cuddles in the park today. He is turning into a compete cuddle tart and actually seems depressed if we go home without him having had chance to accost a stranger for some lurve. Perhaps he feels I am not paying him enough attention!
General hugs in the direction of anyone with toothache, colds, kidney infections, spatula-induced aches . xxxAspire not to have more but to be more.

Still trying to be frugal...0 -
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I have spent a blissful afternoon with Mia and her Mum and Dad when I managed to get a 2 hour cuddle while Mia slept peacefully in my arms. Such a lovely touch - the midwife who delivered her wrote on her details and Identity label, "Happy Birthday darling." Apparently she writes a different message for each baby she delivers.
Am now trying to rejoin the real world again.
SDG: So glad that the cremation went well and that you could enjoy happy memories.
Fuddle: That is an awful, really ghastly thing to happen. As others have said, it happens to us all at times but that doesn't make it any better for you. You have faced it bravely and sensibly, but I bet you didn't feel brave or sensible. Fingers crossed that is the end of your bad luck for a while.
Off to bed now to dream of petal soft skin, a little rose-bud mouth, deep, deep blue eyes and a little warm snuffly body nestling in my arms.

SDG glad the service was what Carl wanted abd you said your goodbyes. As Smileyt saysounds like a nice guy.
Fuddle don't feel bad it was an accident and they do happen.
monnagran, congratulations on being a grandma again.
had a bus ticket bought me by a friend so I could do her a favour so I nipped into Manchester did what she needed then went for a wander. Primarni certainly has shot up,I love the jewellry but it was twice the price of last time and they have had a face lift so guess we are paying for that. I spent the grand total of 68p on a ys pineapple in the Co-*p and came home. Of course I got the crazy bus lady who was laying down the law to her imaginary friend and narrowly escaped being caught by the crazy toilet lady (thats a new one) other than that sore feet, downpour of rain and bored silly.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
