Never again will I do rice pud in the halogen. I've given up and transferred to the slow cooker, it's coming on famously now. Kids are in bed and not happy at having to have cereal instead0 -
Rice Pud for breakfast as a trade off for cereal for supper?0

RANT ALERT!!
Why do boys smell so much and/or create such powerful smells?
In the front room I have one poorly boy recovering from exhaustion. His clothes stink of cigarettes, and as he has no wardrobe, his clothes are also used by his four cats for bedding purposes, and I suspect also they have the occasional wee on them. He lives in a one-bedroomed flat which I can't visit due to my cat allergy and strong dislike of cigarette smoke - I would literally not be able to breathe in there.
In the back room I have one large boy smelling of strong aftershave, eating some disgusting takeaway thing that has completely turned my stomach.
So I have retreated to my bedroom with my dogs. Both windows are open and all I can smell is fresh air.
I think I am getting too stuck in my ways to have another boy. They are just too messy and smelly for me. It's probably made worse because it is 'that time of the month' for me and this month I am suffering from nausea and smells make this much worse!
Apologies to any male lurkers, and to Popperwell - but you gotta admit your average young male is somewhat lacking in the nasal self-perception area!!
I too am outnumbered by boy smells but one of my sons (i have three) is meticulous about his hygiene but will pee in his room or out of his window when in a deep sleep:eek::eek::eek:
My DD has a love for strong smelling perfumes which also turn my tummy but I try not to comment as I was never allowed to wear perfume as it affected my mother.
Im loving the intros by the way. Im 45 and retired now due to ill health. I was a community midwife and way back an Occupational Therapist for children. I have four kids 3 boys (21,17 and 16) and DD (20). I am very happy now with OH but we had some very tough times together and split up for a short while. We have been married for 18 years now and he is such a hard working chap. Im really in limbo as I need to find new activities to fill my time and have started quilting but have dabbled with a few crafts. I love cooking but it is now almost impossible:(I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Smiley - you seem to be terribly unlucky with your boys! I have got lots of gay friends, and to a man, the boys are usually totally fastidious and almost OCD about keeping themselves and their homes clean!
SC K&S was a triumph, OH had to finish it from the bowl (pig). Will do a comparison pud in the pressure cooker just to see which is better (fiiiiiiiight!) but def a keeper that one!
We don't seem to use too much electric, although I do have lappy on all day and cctv cam in garden. Our heating is oil, but the boiler does use electric to run. We have the wood burner too so we try to use that rather than CH. Don't use big oven much, so that will save, no TD, but we do wash a lot now (whites and tea towels).Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Kidcat,
If I don't use the gas much during the year and expecially during the summer my bill per month for electric and gas and allowing for being higher with my estimate it may come in around £560 annually and that includes VAT and standing charges and if they give me back the £100 annually and £45 for paperless billing that come down to £415 annually.:) Which means quite a saving or perhaps I could put everything on a bit longer. Knowing me my calculations will be wrong
But of course there will be £1,870 to find for water rates and bedroom tax. That's around £45 a week...then we don't know what the situation is regarding help with Council Tax...and whether I will be on the benefits I am now or something else and it is roughly what I get now or less. If I would still be classed as ill(I know that I am, as does my Dr and Consultant)will I be on JSA, ESA get the equivelent of DLA...who knows etc...will I be able to keep my internet(PC/Telephone) going which is my entertainment and contact with the world. That only works out around approx £1 a day. I don't mind giving up the tv...
And finally food(I have not taken into account the need to get around by bus/taxi's...)or buying items like clothes and replacing items that need replacing or repairing...
I did not realise VAT on electric and gas is set at seemingly 5% thank heavens for that. I would love the standing charge and VAT to be removed but that's not going to happen..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Well done Molly and nice to see you...
You know we all really want so little(there's Shegar loving her home)and doing caring for her other half too(so many do)and yet we have to skrimp, save and struggle to keep our heads above water and see our incomes continue to reduce.
I have noticed that we're mostly alike from the introductions...someone asked who came up with the idea to introduce ourselves...it was Lisakays Mum...
I would say that we are trying to learn from those who have gone before how to survive but if we do have to use modern technology and it makes our lives easier why shouldn't we? It's not trying out do
someone or boasting. Especially if in ill health anything that helps make life easier should be used where possible though I quite understand the idea of trying not to hurt the environment.
Yes eebn on the so called Zombie or so called prepping threads.
Our elders often used gadgets as they became the fashion just that most used good old elbow grease.
We really are all OS'ers and trying to support each other...as for your lads, that's a mystery:think:;)and I am a fella myself!

As you say Mrs Chip I think the electric will go up if I put the gas CH on as I think it uses an electric pump to move the water around the radiators."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
