Thank you for the preserving advice. :) My jars (I only had two :( I save the smart price jam jars as they're only 35p but just started recently to save them so er, not many) were washed, dried and warmed in the oven for 20mins. The jam bubbled and bubbled (and made a mess, I need a bigger pan) but is now safely tucked up in the jars with a little left out for testing in the morning when the loaf is made :)

The girls want to come tomorrow, so we'll put our scruffs on and get the dog out early. Tomorrow's glut will be made into a blackberry and apple pie (with custard) and some BB wine.

I still have 1kg in the freezer but I still feel like I should be trying to preserve them in their finery, not make them into stuff to gobble. I dunno. Still, I'm enjoying my bit self and learning along the way :)

I haven't caught up yet still two pages to go but wanted to say Mr A has 1.5lt kilner type jars for £2, their own make and they just call them storage jars but kilner in all but name and the seal is a creamy beigy colour apart from that and name missing they are the same to my kilner ones......I bought two as don't need them at the moment but at that price couldn't leave them and will need them sooner or later.

I might actually pop back tomorrow to see if they have any more, I should have bought them today but didn't take a trolley as thought only had to go to cs for slanket not to back of store and was laden with new cereal storage boxes as they have massive ones for £2 each and my Ikea ones don't hold full box (750g)of packet of cereal or oats, as wouldn't mind a few more of those jars and as they could not find my slanket - been delivered to the store, according to where ever it was sent from, but not been registered as being at the store, but no-one knows where it is I will have to pop back again to see if its turned up.. Poor SA was hunting high and low for my £4 slanket, I felt so bad but I do want it rather than my money back.

Anyone want a hubby won't bore you with the details but divorce is looking good again, if I was able to work and had money so moving somewhere was easy I would be out the door in a flash.

Went to youngest DGD birthday but only stayed about 21/2hrs as was just to tired and achy.

Right off to catch up on the two or so pages still to read.

Hugs and Love to all xxxx

Lots of sympathy for you, a visit to the hospital for whatever reason usually takes up the whole day for us too. And it is so frustrating, OH was recently told his medication to change, then we waited 10 days for letter to reach GP, it arrived Friday morning, but they said couldn't write prescription until next week. But when he made a fuss and asked to speak to 'someone in charge' they suddenly could do it the same day. It is terrible that you have to be unpleasant with people just to get decent treatment.

Hope you have a nice evening and good weather tomorrow!

PAP - be careful of those Asda kilner jars. I bought two last year. As usual I sterilised them in the oven and they were as warm as they should be when I put hot apple in them (preserved some in syrup).

One jar was fine. The other exploded as soon as I put the stuff in. It was treated the same way I treat every other jar, and could have been very nasty.

Might just have been a duff one, but I haven't dared buy any more.

Welcome to all the newbies and delurkers.

What a nice idea to do a reintroduction for the benefit of newbies - sorry, forgot who posted it but thanks.

I'm a SAHM to 2 amazing and determined children. DD is 3 1/2, DS is 15 months and they both have a rare genetic disorder called Joubert's Syndrome so have physical disabilities and mobility issues together with some other stuff but neither of them let it stop them. My lovely OH and I are getting married in half term, he works in the warehouse for Mr T and we live in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. I'm doing OU - a degree in childhod and youth studies, so is OH - his degree is history and I'm also a compulsive crafter and cook and do various 'stuff' in my local community. Life chez stiltwalker is pretty hectic but all good stuff.

Right must get back to my sewing - yet another bag for my 'bag lady' stall at my mum's craft fair in Oct. Hoping the proceeds will go towards spendies for our Centre Parcs honeymoon/family holiday after the wedding.

I got 30 lovely Bon Maman jam jars from Freecycle, I am very careful to make sure they don't get given away, they are my favorite jars for jam :o

Quick profile for new Toughies - Me (53) and OH plus cat. Enough being enough we gave up our jobs and moved to West Wales to start a mobile catering business. All going well but hard work. I like gardening cooking hate housework so OH does most of that (allergy to house dust mites helps:D). We are very lucky to now live in a beautiful of the world, but boy does it rain!

PAH - you have my sympathies, OH can be the most infuriating human on the planet at times  He sees everything as a battle of wills, whereas I see things as just making sure things are done properly. He is sometimes so childish I want to scream!

So sorry for those battling the Drs, had our bellyful of that, so know how frustrating that can be. No advice, apart from strong drink :rotfl:

I love Bon Maman jars, you lucky thing.

I just make do with those cheapy ones but I would like some red gingham lids and I would like a nice sticker for my preserves too. Actually that's a good idea - tomorrow i'll ask the girls if they want to make a label for the jam.. if I can't have chic, i'll have kiddie :)
