When I said new carpets I was thinking of somebody replacing perfectly good ones all over the house just because they could and splashing money around like a drunken sailor.

Not even the severest critic would suggest having threadbare carpet is a good idea for someone in poor health with mobility problems. Runners and mats could also be a hazard.

Might be an idea to consider deals on a carpet to keep yourself safe.

I have some tinned potatoes but also jars of bottled new potatoes which DH regards with great suspicion :rotfl:

However- if I open a tin and use some as a base for a soup or all of it for leek and potato soup or for a SC stew and or top it with pastry I doubt he will complain ( as long as I don't tell him!)

Need to go and marinade chicken pieces for tonight and also make lamb mince koftas for tonight so see you later.

Good morning everyone! I see you've all been very chatty again - it's taken me an hour to catch up! I was AWOL yesterday thanks to a longer-than-expected day at the coalface, but at least it's Friday and I have a day off :D

DH has finished painting the kitchen (well, he still has to do the gloss but the walls are finished) so today I will mainly be cleaning and finally putting my things away in their new homes. I am determined that I am going to be ruthless and get rid of a lot of surplus carp that I have been hoarding over the years (why is it that I can never put an empty ice cream or margarine tub in the recycling? I always wash them out and keep them.... a few are useful, but I have hundreds! :o) So my main aim is for a clutter free kitchen (can almost hear DH muttering "we'll see how long that lasts" :p)

We have a family wedding tomorrow so I will most likely be AWOL over the weekend - we are staying at the hotel (the bride's father has paid for the whole family to stay over... it's super generous of him and it's a lovely country hotel with a pool and fabulous grounds etc so we will be making the most of it on Sunday morning and treating it like a mini-holiday :j). I will mainly be trying to dodge the wedding photographer as I hate having my picture taken - I don't mind the formal photos so much (you can always hide behind a tall person) but I fear there will be a photographer on hand all day taking "candid" reportage-style pictures - *shudders*

Not much OS to report today except that if I have time I will be christening my new oven and baking some cakes - we seem to have a glut of over-ripe bananas and they really need converting into cake form soon.

I also need to do a full storecupboard audit but I will be doing that as I go along with unpacking the boxes. I have a fairly respectable storecupboard (not in PAH's league though I'm afraid!) but need to plan ahead a little more if there are to be shortages/massive price increases later in the year following the various crop failures. The thing with storecupboards is that you can always improve them...!

Right, better get cracking with the housework - have good days all

    Evie xx

I haven't any rainy day money...when I come into Mum's savings it is not a lot but it will be used for rent, council tax, food and utility bills. My help stops. No guarantee I will get help when I reapply. Mum's money will be used up within 12-18 months and possibly before. No luxuries...

If I had money I would not be entitled to what I have now...now lets stop giving me the third degree, I won't respond and the regulars on here know how genuine I am...

And finacesdo get discussed, as do when someone loses their jobs but mainly we talk about many things like food, making clothes, bargains in the shops, family and Halogen Ovens...;)

Evie - I am also totally incapable of throwing away perfectly good ice cream/marg tubs. I only need so many, but they seem to become personal friends and I really, really struggle to get rid.

I don't think I've seen pah's store. I still don't have a bulb for mine. Evie, so pleased your kitchen is nearly done. Nearly time for all that OSing :D

As of 10.30am I am child free but already in a dither what I'm going to do. I think it will be housework

It's jar pasta bake day. Simple and easy. I am going to attempt bread in the halo though. Wish me luck!

DD's b'day tomorrow so going to wrap her little gifts and determined to get that zip in the skirt I made.

Sadly people often get the wrong idea just as they do automatically assume that teachers have the whole of the Summer off and have no preperation to do for the coming term. A lot of asumptions are made...

    Morning All

Can I also admit to a 'healthy' hoard of assorted plastic boxes and containers? OH thinks I am mad, but what does he know :D. I do struggle with storing them as they are all shapes and sizes and there is no space for a big box for them.

I can sometimes be found cooing over a nice set of plastic storage stuff, stroking them even and wistfully walking away... sometimes I give in and add to the collection :o.

I know this thread rambles of on all sorts of topics, but we are allowed - 'Miss' gave us special permission a thread or so back to be less 'focused' and more generally a friendly support thread - please try to keep it so, a lot of us depend on it being here every day:).

Did you get anything with the Halo in the way of accessories? Or nothing at all...sounds like it is starting to come together at last...

it may be that without an extender ring the heat source is too close to the bread?

  • Very uncomfortable with the way this conversation has gone, so going to bow out again for a while.
imo I'm very uneasy about the idea of moving money to other places to disguise the fact that it is savings, and indeed it won't help - unless one blatantly lies on the forms they specifically ask if you have any money for a rainy day, stashed in any place other than the bank.
Good look for the future everyone, we surely are going to need it
