Arghhh third attempt so a shorter post

Am so happy to see that things are turning around for some of you :)
and at the same time as so sad at the uncertainty that others are experiencing

I am lacksadaisical this morning and jobs were harder to do so will be sitting and crocheting later today, instead of yet more jobs.

Fuddle, you gave my mind a jolt this morning. 4 weeks to autumn  and I have no idea about sept weather yet but the recent dry spell was very hard work re watering, so am setting things in motion for 2 weeks time as I am kind of assuming dry to come, as I see water co has already warned of more drought over winter. Today I emptied 4 planters to go on the compost and sowed the last seeds, chard and little gem as they will get their feet down before they frizzle `if` it gets very hot and dry

Picking stuff and keeping things fertilised is important now, I know lots of people who get to august and kind of give up after all their hard work. Its like the last chance saloon. omg it is suddenly torrential , oh dear and I saw several lots of drying onions and garlic on allotment plots yesterday

I am having a first time go at dehydrating celery today, I used 5 plants from a planter as they all looked good to go

Took a big shopping trolley of goodies to cs yesterday, including the tightwad gazette, hope someone gets good use from them, am also giving 2/3 of my card crafting stuff away to dd`s. This all started with me trying to cram my stockcupboard into a smaller space

Re oven, me too I would definitely have a built in oven if I had the chance. Ridiculous having my oven at calf height and I now use my cheapo table top one all the time. I can`t be doing with having to kneel on the floor to see how things are cooking, ridiculous design

Mrs lw thank you for putting it so beautifully, hear hear I second that one. :)
Most times i am posting on my phone and it is difficult to name everyone and type it but i Am thinking of you all and holding you all close.

We now have a built-in oven and whilst its height is good, I would swap for an aga type any day just to have more ovens!!

Off for day with kids today, first stop buy bed for DD17 then national trust somewhere with scooters for fresh air. Hugs to all.

Hello toughies, just touching base. The Olympics is on, and as I love it and don't usually watch much TV, it's replaced going on forums as a between work time-filler.
Can't believe how quickly the new Aldi is being built, it's gone from being a basic steel frame to looking very much like a building in just a couple of weeks. At the moment the footpath where I cycled past Pops is closed for resurfacing - good job too as it was awful. Do stop me and say hi if you see me anywhere in town, Pops, just yell 'Hi Andrea!' .
The little boy who was killed at Beamish Museum in the trailer accident is being buried today; he is the grandson of a couple I know quite well. They are devoted to their grandchildren and this is just horrible. I hadn't realised it was him until after I got back from my break.
Made good use of the cheap greengrocer - he's got the same name as a famous athlete of the long ago past, which amused me.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Fuddle is it possible for you to put a regular little amount in a credit union if you have one? I have a standing order to add to mine and because I never see the money in the bank I don't miss it. Or you could put it in a savings account. Even if at the end of a year it is only £260 (based on £5 a week) you would be able to get a loan from a credit union for an emergency.

What is a credit union? I'm not allowed any credit and wouldn't want anything again other than a mortgage if we get the chance.

Also, a private pension. Do these exist? I don't have any pension and was waiting to work back in education again before I started. As I'm going to childmind instead I wondered should I be putting something away myself? Should I just save instead and not worry about a pension? It's very confusing. Dh has only just started paying into his company pension and he's 36 on Sunday.

Private pensions are easily obtainable and have the advantage of tax relief. Whether they are the best option is debatable, given the performance of some pension funds, but I'm not qualified to debate it. I do think it's very important for us (relatively!) young 'uns to prepare for a future which will very possibily have no state pension in it. There is already no money in the pot so it just doesn't seem possible to fund pensions and care for an aging population.

I am beginning to feel just a little bit more positive about my brown envelope moment of last week. I have just had an email from my physio who very kindly wrote a letter in my support to say that the decision is farcical. He will also write (along with my GP) so hoping this will help. My MP, who is conservative, has asked me what she can do to help. What does anyone suggest I say to that?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
